Cranbery juice is being touted for use to prevent urinary tract infections and as a deodorant for urine. I have heard of it's use in Nursing homes and am wondering how widespread the use of Cranberry juice or powder is.

In the LTC where I work, I have ordered Cranberry juice for many people who are prone to UTIs as a nursing measure. I keep a pitcher of it at the nurse's desk and hand out several glassess every day. I mix it with Apple if it's too strong.

I had a horrible kidney infection a few years back. In addition to the ATB-the Dr. told me to drink LOTS of cranberry juice. The key is-you have to drink alot of it for it to do any good.

That is my understanding as well. The only thing is, that adds up to alot of sugar and ALOT of calories. I use the concentrated cranberry capsules, and of course I wash them down w/ some tasty cranberry juice!

The problem with cranberry juice is the sugar. Many older people are diabetic, but , of course, on my floor cranberry pills are not even dicussed.

I take cranberry pills daily. It works.

I'm sorry to say, but in my hospital antibiotics are as common as vitamines, only because the "herbal supplements are not FDA approved".

I think the cranberry juice does work, but

as mentioned above the sugar can be

a problem. I Know Moosehead beer works, at least for me!! :)

Moosehead Beer????

"Oh NO your honour" she said standing at the bench "I was using it to deodorise the residents urine. The fact that they all got drunk and had a raving Geriatric party was incidental to the treatment!!"

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

:chuckle I meant for my OWN personal

use!! But I think it might

work pretty well for some

patients too!! :chuckle

Gosh! We have enough trouble just getting nourishments TO PASS~ much less w/o asking for something specific!
