Does anyone know any good audiotapes or videos?

As far as audiotapes go, the set from Springhouse Heart and Lung sounds is very good and includes a reference manual. Where videos are concerned, no clue, I just purchased a CEN exam review video series, I hope it is useful as it was quite expensive. I would try nursesstationcatalog.com, amazon.com, bn.com or your local Borders. A nice feature on amazon and bn.com is the reviews of merchandise. Good luck!

I recently bought the Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's audio tapes on preparing for the CCRN exam. You can get it a http://www.nursesdirect.com (Nurses Station is the catalog). It's a 4 cassette tape of seminar she conducted. It's entitled CCRN Review Cram. Cost was $70. She's entertaining and educational. There's also video tapes but they were $150. I like the cassettes because I can listen in my car or on a walk. I'm studying for the CCRN and her tapes are one of my methods.

Would those tapes be pertitent to me? I eventually plan to work in CCU but after my kids get bigger...and I can work more.

Askatar, yes, they're good. Of the 4 tapes, one complete tape is Cardiovascular. She does a great job of explaining heart sounds, s3, s4, heart murmurs and MIs. Even the stuff that doesn't necessarily apply to stepdown (e.g., neuro ICU stuff) is presented interestingly enough that you'd listen anyway.

Vonfrolio's CEN review on audiotape is pretty good too. Unfortunately, I tend to remember her anecdotes better than the CEN facts............she can be downright hilarious. There are no sacred cows in her universe.:D

supervisor: "how is he?"

Vonfrolio "he's dead"

supervisor: "so are you going to scan him?"
