My wife is currently enrolled in nursing school. She starts her actual nursing classes the fall of 2003 (getting the pre-req's out of the way). Hope to graduate by spring of 2005. Right now she's interested in ICU/CCU nursing. So if she doesn't change her mind, she'll probably do about 2 years training at a local teaching hospital in their MICU or CCU department.

We've been tossing around some ideas regarding nursing careers. One thing that came to mind is traveling together; traveling nursing as ICU/CCU nurses. I know that this is a ways off in time. But it's never too early to start asking questions.

Any couple out there who "travel nurse" together? Do agencies provide programs for "couple teams" who want to do traveling nursing? If so, how good are these programs? Free housing? Good benefits? Etc, etc, etc??

This is an extremely open-ended inquiry. Any comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks ahead of time! And Cheers! :)

I used to work with a nurse who just started travel nursing with her husband. The agency was pretty good to them; free housing, assignments at the same hospital, even got them opposite working days so that they could take care of their kids (preschooler and baby) without a babysitter. I talked to the wife a couple of weeks ago; she said she wants to come back home and he'll continue to travel, taking 4 week assignments at a time and then coming home.

It hasn't turned out to be what they wanted, but the agency has been very willing to work with them.

My friend and his wife are going to start traveling in January. Their first assignment is in Maine for 6 months. They get a brand new townhouse, living stipend, and oodles of money an hour. Heck, they have nothing to lose since they have no kids. After Maine is 6 months in Hawaii. I think it would be great!! If I didn't have children, I would do it myself. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I know a number of couples who travel together. I'd suggest you wander on over to delphiforums Travel Nurses & Therapists board and ask the same question - I know you'll get responses.

You might try the "travel nursing" and "agency nursing" forums on this BB for more information.
