Anonymous survey on Hospital Nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi,

I am doing a survey on hospital nurses, for a college paper to find out if they are able to live up to their own ideals of nursing, why or why not, and if not how are they handing themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually. I specifically would like to find out what you feel about nursing, and how you handle your jobs, how fulfilled you feel at the end of the day, and whether or not you agree with some of the policies and procedures, and whether or not some of these policies actually prevent you from doing your job the way you would like to, or if they help you.

I would be grateful if you would participate honestly. It is completely anonymous. You just have to be a registered nurse who has been nursing for at least a year, preferably more. I am particularly concerned about the mental and physical health of nurses and the toll nursing takes on them.

Some questions ask you to check all that apply, but this option is not available, so you can write your response down in 'other' if you have more than one answer

Thank for your time and effort. I appreciate it.:heartbeat

I would like to thank those that responded to the survey. I will post the results in a couple of days.

I have been an RN in a busy stroke/ cardiac unit and step down for over 10 years. I decided to do this survey after doing some research on stress in nursing, and how nurses are handling it. There are theorists who have done more research than I on moral distress in nurses, and the severe repercussion of this. Notably Jameton, and Selye.

I apologize for the survey not being able to take the multiple answers. It would not allow me that option when I went back to try to change it to multiple checks. It was proof read, but there may be a few inconsistencies here and there. The inconsistencies are not reflected in the big picture.

Also - the questions were initially designed for my hospital, but seeing I got all the responses I needed, I decided to spread my wings a bit, and have nurses from outside the system do it.

The issues are serious. In the years I have been a nurse, a few nurses I know have committed suicide, and a number have had to take time off for stress relief. I am sorry if anyone thinks this survey was unprofessional, it was just a simple survey to glean some insight on an incredibly serious problem.

I thank all of you who participated graciously

Hi,

Yes, I think it is fine for you to do the survey. You work hard as well, and I am just trying to get an idea of the stress level that nurses have to deal with, and how they deal with it.

I took your survey, and although it had some good parts, I thought it was flawed. It seemed biased toward coming up with a particular conclusion. It was also repetitive, in my opinion. I also think it was too long.

Thanks for your input. I probably did have too many questions - and yes it might have been biased, because my paper is specifically on stress and how nurses deal with it. so I want to know how nurses feel, and if they are handling their stress appropriately, getting excercise, not resorting to drugs or etoh. The good news is that most nurses in the survey, despite being frustrated, are not resorting to drugs and alcohol, and seem to be using their support systems. The common theme throughout is lack of time, and poor staffing, and too much paper work.

It started out as a simple survey for my unit - and I decided to put it on all nurses.com once I had the responses I needed from my hospital.

I appreciate you taking the time to do it

You're very welcome. I enjoy taking surveys. Good luck!
