I am just wondering if there are any advanced degree's for OR nurses. I have heard after 2 years exp that you can get a job at a prosthetic company and they train you to insert their prosthetic s into the patients? Has anyone heard of this or know of any other advanced degrees/jobs for OR nurses??

I believe what you are talking about is a company rep. Are you referring to prosthetics as in artificial limbs or as in implants used during surgery? As a rep, you will not be participating in surgeries where implants are used; rather, the role is one of a guide to support the surgeon and staff. Some facilities do not allow reps into the OR itself; others do.

Thank you for the response! I am refering to prosthetics as in artificial limbs. Yes i believe you are right, the job I heard about does sound like a company rep type of position. The issue I am having is that I am torn in taking a job in a OR, or in on a Sticu unit. I just graduated recently with my BSN, and during school I knew I wanted to work in the OR either as a OR nurse or after receiving some type of advaced degree - CRNA, or surgical NP. However, I am unsure of the right path. CRNA is possible and I will end up in the OR which I love.. but I will have to face the possibility of not enjoying the icu setting for however many years it takes me to get into school. Then on the other hand I can go into the OR strait off and love it, but be hindered by not being able to pursue the advanced degree I would be interested in, since I have never liked education and dont necessarily like management type of jobs. I thought the company rep job seemed neat, but as you said since some hospitals allow it and others dont it might not be wise to pursue. I know the post is long, so thank you so much for taking the time to help!
