Hi All

My names Kelly. I'm a british 3rd year nursing student specialising in Learning disabilities, correct me if im wrong but i think the term developmental delay is used over your way.

One of my assignments for this year is to get the perspective of a non learning disabilities professional on their experience of working with individuals with a learning disability in the community, their experience of the services provided for individuals with a learning disabilties and their experience of working with other professionals to provide this care. I thought it would be interesting to get input from someone outside the UK. I have to feed back this information as a presentation which i will be assessed on.

All names will be changed for confidentiality. All i need is your job title a brief history and the nature of your experience. What you choose to include is totally down to you.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my thread, and i wish you all the best.

Yours Kindly

Kelly.

Are you referring to developmental-type problems or to folks who have specific types of learning disabilities but normal intelligence (ADHD, spatial reasoning, innumeracy, etc.)?

Hi Thanks for replying.

I'm not sure about other countries and the specifics, but in the uk as learning disabilities nurses we deal with individuals with a wide range of needs, from mild, moderate to severe profound learning disabilities. We work with individuals with ASD to individuals with complex health needs. But mostly with people who have a developmental type conditions ie Individuals with Downs syndrome. Basically learning disabiltites is kinda defined by an iq of 70 and under. So if you have a experience of any kind i'd love to hear from you.

Thanks

Kelly
