? about volunteering in TN with NC license

Nurses General Nursing

Hi All!

I have a quick question. I was invited to be a volunteer nurse at a camp in TN for children with many different kinds of disabilities. I am an RN in NC. I was wondering if I need to do anything regarding my license since I would be practicing in TN at the camp?

I tried to look on the NCBON but could not really find any information.

I have never volunteered out of state and I'm not sure what the conditions are, if I need to fill out paperwork, etc. Any information is greatly appreciated!

do you have a multistate license? tn and nc are compact states.

if a nurse's legal residence and state of nursing licensure is a participating compact state (arizona, arkansas, delaware, idaho, iowa, maine, maryland, mississippi, nebraska, new hampshire, new mexico, north carolina, south carolina, north dakota, south dakota, tennessee, texas, utah, virginia, or wisconsin ), the nurse can work in any of those other states on her home state's nursing license, just like she can drive there on her home state's driver's license.

I don't know if I have a multi state license. I have only been an RN about a year and a half, and this issue has never came up before.

So since NC and TN are compact states I can practice there? Do I need to do anything special? I think that's what you're saying, but I'm not sure about the multi state license. Thanks!

Check your license, or go to the NC BON website(http://www.ncbon.org) and verify your license, and see if it says "This license has multistate practice privileges by authority of the Nurse Licensure Compact." If it does, you're all set; your NC license is honored in TN (I live in NC and work in TN currently).

I went there and it DID say I have multistate privileges! I'm SO excited to go to this camp, especially now that I know I can go and my license is valid! Thanks so much!

You're welcome -- hope you have a great experience at the camp! :balloons:
