General Eds... pre-nursing student... am I crazy?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am starting my general education in January. I am 22 years old, a mother of 2, 1 and 3 years old. Planning a wedding for Summer and working a full time job as a CNA, plan on going per diem next month. I am passionate about my dream of becoming a nurse, specifically an OB nurse. I am SO worried that I will be in over my head with school. What tips can you give me, especially those of you with full plates. I am so excited for school just worried that I will be overwhelmed. Thanks all!

Stay organized!! I sooo recommend using a planner and sticking to a schedule. It'll help with time management, especially since you work, have a family, and will be going to school. Good luck, you can do it!

I agree with the above post. I also use different colors for each class and write down when all assignments are due. I star and highlight when tests are so I have plenty of study time. Good luck in your new endeavor:D

Stay organized! And be strict w/yourself...stay on track. Make sure you have designated days &/or nights where a friend or family member will watch the kids, so you can study--a strong support system is VERY important. Also I highly recommend 1-2 days of your study time be out of the house-@ library, starbucks etc. its alot easier to concentrate away from the demands & needs of lil ones. Even if only for an hour, a couple times a week.

Some other tips: set your alarm to wake up 1-2 hours b4 the kids do everyday to study (this is usually easier to accomplish on weekends), get the kids on a set bedtime schedule, so you can have 2-3 hours to study when they go to bed at night.

Take your notes (or flashcards) everywhere with you & study on your breaks, while waiting @ drs office, during your kids extracurricular practices etc. Study, study, study. Put everything you have into it, itll all be worth it in the end!

Wow... thanks so much for the helpful tips. Seems to me that organization and studying studying studying are the biggest factors in being successful. How are you all doing so far with school?

I've done pretty well with school. I don't have kids, but my grandmother lives with me and she is going through her own second childhood so it is like having a kid. I am a full time student, at least 12 credits/semester. I also work during the week. I make a to do list every day based on what I have in my planner that week. It helps to keep me on track and not overwhelm me.

One thing I plan on doing is getting a white board (dry erase) to put on the wall of my study at home. I plan on keeping track of what's coming up and deadlines so that's it right in my face. I'll be working full-time and going to school part-time all the way through. I'm lucky in that my kids are grown and I have no other responsibilities but just keeping track of work, school and miscellaneous chores will be quite enough.
