Hi everyone!
I just wanted to see if there is anyone else that is applying for the summer session at gcu for this year? Deadlines were almost a month ago and by previous times I have seen, we should find out next week on the 15th or so. I haven't seen anyone post anything about it though!
Oh ok that's cool! I live closer to Boswell so it's a lot easier for me. Do you know how clinicals work? Like what the schedule looks like for us?
Oh yeah that's great! And no idea actually!!! I heard they changed it a lot recently for shorter days I think? But I don't really know. I will definitely tell you any information i find out though bc I heard there's a lot of requirements we need to get done by a certain deadline!
Congrats on getting in! I am currently a level one in the nursing program and posted in another forum about what you all should expect and what you should get started on as far as getting ready. Don't worry about the confirmation e-mails. For a lot of us it took over a month for them to respond! As far as clinical, you won't be starting until about week 6 or 7. They will e-mail you with your placement and times. Please note that you can be commuting up to about an hour and a half for clinical. They are typically 8h shifts but some can be 12h. If you have an 8h rotation, you will have 5 weeks of rotations. If you have 12h clinical, you will have less weeks. For me, I have to commute to Chandler for my clinical. Personally, I would just wait. You will probably start to hear a lot about Immersive simulation. It sounds scary, but honestly, it was really fun! Your schedules will probably be sent out to you via share point calendar about a month or so before you start. You may see a schedule pop up on your portal for GCU, but don't trust that. You are now going to be accountable for your schedule through something called share point (sort of like a google calendar that CONHCP maintains). This should also be sent out a month before you start. One piece of advice: you probably are going to see your schedules and be excited about how much free time you have and how open your class schedule is. Well, they won't actually be filling in your full complete schedule until maybe a week before class starts. To give you an idea, I have clinical on Tuesday all day, I have class from 8-5:30 on Wednesdays, 8-3 on Thursdays, ad 8-5 on Fridays. Having Monday seems nice; however, I always go to practice lab that day and study, so even when your off, you are still working. Speaking of which, and I am sure you have heard all about this and will continue to, it is highly discouraged that you have a job in nursing school. There are some in my cohort that have jobs; however ,please note the time and effort that you will need to put towards school is 10x as much as it was in prereqs. For example, if you get less than an 80% on one exam, you need to have regular meetings with your professor because you are considered "At risk". You MUST have a 76% exam average in all classes or you will not be able to move further into the program. Even if you have all A's, except one class you have an 88% but your exam average is a 75.99%, you fail out. It's hard, but doable. Also, just because you got placed on Main campus (or Boswell), you still may have labs at the other campus! Also, just because you are placed at Boswell, does not mean you will have your clinical there. If you would like more information about the program, check out the other forum! Congrats!
