GCU Spring 2016 Hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone,

So I was just going to start a new thread because I am really trying to get into the Spring 2016 GCU nursing pre-licensure program. I've heard really great things about the program there and I feel like it may just be the school for me. Where I currently live, Albuquerque, options are kind of limited for school. You can either go to CNM which is a pain to get into or UNM which is also hard to get into. I considered going to Pima Medical Institute but after realizing they were not regionally accredited and had a bad experience with an advisor, I decided to look elsewhere. I have my first meeting with a GCU advisor on Tuesday and I am so excited. I feel like possibly things will start looking up :)

Anyone else trying to get into the Spring 2016 program? I did read from previous threads that the program is changing drastically and would like to know what the changes might possibly be like for Spring semester.

Thank you!

GCU program is much better than UNMs program hands down. Not to mention floor nurses can see the difference between gcu and unm students quite easily and gcu students are prized and remembered by staff for our skills and knowledge as compared to other programs who do the same clinical rotations on the same units as gcu students.

I really recommend avoiding Pima and cnm. You want your BSN, but don't forget NMSU also has a BSN program in cruces. Also, don't forget about the UNM ADN program in Los Lunas and Santa Fes community college nursing program, Both within a 40 min drive from Abq. Except NMSU of course.

Be smart though, don't limit yourself to one program, APPLY TO EVERY PROGRAM YOU CAN.

What exactly are these changes your speak of? The only changes I'm aware of is mainly with finding new clinical instructors. I do recall they said something about it changing but wasn't major or drastic changes at all. I wouldn't worry, just ask the advisor. He's really nice and informative.

Feel free to message me if you want more info or help as to getting into a program in Abq, I went through it all, hair pulling, tears, and joy.

good luck

Thank you! I really wish I could apply to the campuses outside of Albuquerque but due to finances I don't have that option.

I've heard there are going to be changes within the admissions. Fast track summer program was cancelled at the main campus in AZ and they were told that they're going to be more focused on GCU students than transfer in the webinar after the changes were made. Not too sure what these changes will be like at the ABQ campus but I'll find out on next Tuesday.
