GCU RN to BSN capstone course

Good golly, I have gone through GCUs entire program with no difficulty. This capstone course requires a 'mentor' and it is literally taking a ridiculous amount of my time setting up paperwork and documentation they require after going through numerous local contacts with which the school has an 'affiliation' that the facilities know nothing about. Has anybody else had this issue with the capstone course at GCU? I'm about fed up which is sad because it's my last class.

I am so stressed out with this capstone class. It is my first week and the paperwork is ridiculous. And the weekly journal, what exactly is that all about? I wish I would have finished this degree years ago so I wouldn't be in this 10 week hell.

It will get better.... the first week is a bunch of busy work that you have already submitted and your instructor will give you the final clearance for your mentor. Definitely manageable, you just have to be prepared for busy work throughout with solid academic writing thrown into the mix. The weekly journal seems to revisit many of the core topics found throughout the program itself in which you will provide a summary of how you are currently (and in the future) applying these aspects in your own clinical practice.

would you mind sending me an email me, I am also very lost with regards to what is due for this capstone!!! I am in my 4th weeks and this is somethin else! nmrainmann at ya who. I would appreciate anyone that can help feel free to mail me!!!

thomasrox.... for the capstone you will be building on your change topic and PICOT statement paper were focused on. If you are in week four that means you are working on the Literature table which is a breakdown of eight articles that support your evidence based practice change that you are going to present in writing. Each piece is going to build on one another leading you towards how you see the change happening and how research as well as monitoring your specific population within in your clinical environment supports making an evidence based transition in care.

Hi all, I'm currently enrolled at GCU. Is it hard to find a preceptor for MSN-ed? I'm from Houston.

I am just starting my Capstone course and I am SO confused on this ISP, Can anyone give me any tips? I think I'm just overthinking the entire process but I'm still struggling getting it filled out! Thank you!

Hi, I was just wondering how long did it take for your mentor to get approved. I've been on standby for 6 weeks now and I've being told it won't go through till August. I'm stressing out.

Yes definitely do not overthink the ISP. Basically it is the layout of how you plan on approaching each week individually in order to reach your final capstone project. Ask your instructor if they have an example to share with the class, most will.

My mentor took some time to get approved, but that was partly due to my field experience rep from GCU trying to figure out the new system at my chosen site/mentor, as well as the site itself recently outsourcing the preceptor requirements, aka the site agreement paperwork. My field experience rep tended to work a bit quicker once the capstone class arrived. I would just follow up and see what input they have to see if you are missing any steps with regards to the agreement.

Starting my capstone next week. If anyone can recommend an instructor, please pm me!

I'm into my second week of this capstone and I am completely lost. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do during 100 hours of immersion. My mentor and site are not approved yet but I'm still in the class.the online format for this class is not user friendly. There's too much information in too many places. There's no break down or timeline of what to do and how to construct this project. I feel like it's just being thrown at me. Please help.

Nikki, yes it’s very confusing and not explained well at the beginning of the class. All of my fellow classmates where also confused. This was one of my major complaints after I graduated and had a interview with the school. Obviously it fell of deaf ears...hahaha. Immersion hrs is the time you spend working on your project/proposal. It’s no big deal and easy to get and is basically based on the honest policy that you spent at least that much time on all the development of your total project. My instructor gave us examples. I have been out of the class for over a year now and can no longer log into it and my saved class work is in a dead lap top in storage so I can’t reference it. Basically you are going to guess how much you will spend on each part and submit it making sure it’s atleast 100hrs. At the end of the course when you turn in the project you will go back and put exactly how many hours you really put in. It’s a lot of busy mindless work. Trust me everyone I know who has done the new cape stone has struggled. Ask the professor to post examples.

You can message me your # if you want we we can talk.
