GCC LPN schedule question

Hi all! Just wondering if anyone who has been in the LPN fasttrack program can answer a quick question for me. For clinicals, do we need to go to the hospital the night before and pick our patient? I'm trying to figure out my work schedule and another student from a different program said he had to go the night before clinicals and pick the patient he would be doing his care plan for and do a bunch of stuff ahead of time. If this goes for the Gateway LPN program as well, please let me know what is involved time wise as well as anything that would be helpful to know.

Thanks in advance for your response!!

Hi! Good luck! You will like the program. I just graduate yesterday, can't believe it is over. Now just waiting to get into block 3. To answer your ?, it really depends on the clinical instructor. In block 1 none of the clinicall groups had to go the night before and you didn't have to do a careplan every week. However, in block 2 when we were ay the hospital, we did have to go the dau before and our careplan was due when we walked in at 6:45. Our med surg instructor also hasd us do a careplan e

very wk or observation sheet depending on which area we were assigned to. The other 2 groupsin our class did not have to go the night before and didn't have to do a careplan every wk. So it really depends.

Thanks for the info, that really helps!

Congrats on graduating!! So, you are just waiting to get into block 3. My GCC advisor said there wouldn't be any problem bridging over right away (I'm done with pre-reqs and co-reqs). Are you finding this to be accurate?

Kind of. We are hearing there are limited spaces for fall so they are basing those spots on HESI scores and course points. Those who do not get into fall will likely (not guaranteed) get a spot in Spring as they are going to open up a block 3 cohort just for the LPN students. So, we will see. Just waiting and hoping I get in for Fall. Again, good luck to you.

Hi :),

Its been a while since anyone has posted on this thread but Im hopeful that some of you will still read my post. I finished Blocks 1-2 (LPN) about 5years ago and Im in my last week of Microbiology, which is my last prerequisite to apply into Block 3. I attended MCCCD/Estrella for my LPN. Im just a bit confused about what I do now. I am enrolled in Pharm 187 to begin at the end of this month and is one month long. I also need to take the HESI-A2 and HESI-PN. Do I have to wait until I (hopefully) pass these tests to apply? I feel so lost. I am really REALLY hoping there would be a way that I could start this fall. I think the best program for me would probably be the GCC wknd program. Does anyone know the start dates of Block 3 placements? Like is it every Jan. and Aug? Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

Deeval,

It is my understanding (and sometimes I get things wrong) is that you have to pass the HESI-PN test to apply for block 3 and submit an advanced placement application. I'm at Gateway and I know they are filling their block 3 spots as soon as we take our HESI-PN exam this week. I don't think you have to have all the co-reqs done, but you do have to have certain ones completed.

I would suggest calling your nursing advisor at whatever school you are applying to to get the real scoop on things.

Good luck!

I would contact the nursing advisor at the college you want to attend to find out exactly what you need to do to apply. You do need to pass the HESI-PN with an 800 or higher before you can apply. You also have to have at least a 75% on the HESI A2. Really, just contact the nursing advisor as they would be best able to help you as the application process is kinda crazy. Good luck.
