Are you homehealth nurses not drowning in debt? On several news stations this morning they reported that gas will soon be rising to $4 a gallon because of hurricane Katrina. How will your agency handle this? What about you nurses that your agency isn't doing anything are you going to have to quit? I'm worried about doing the normal things like going to the grocery, wal-mart, and other errands at those prices:uhoh3:so I can't imagine how you all handle having to ride allover the county you work in. What changes have your homehealth agencies made in the past with all these rising prices. Here in FL. I called one agency today to ask & they quoted me lpn rate of $25 for a reg visit & $28 for weekend (prn rates ofcourse)visit and that the DON is considering raising it again if gas goes up to $4 a gallon. I would love to hear some suggestions because I'm looking to get back into hh, but worry I will end up in the poor house.:p

i work home health/hospice in a small nevada town. lucky for me my patients are anywhere from one to eight miles apart. gas here is right at 2.90/gal.

Well I am a home health nurse in Louisiana. My town was not hurt by the hurricane...but now we are getting many many people from new orleans here in our shelters. It is horrible. many gas stations here are out of gas. and the gas is not too bad....anywhere from 2. 79 - 3.10......I mean it is high...but I have seen worse across the south. My boss is making the best of our visits and if the gas cont to go up as they say it will....we may just go to seeing the patients that really need to be seen. The company I work for is giving us a whole 50cents more a visit for the gas. so who knows. I love my job...and can't ever think of ever going to back to a hospital. so I will just cont to pray for those who need help.....and cont to take care of my patients the best I can. :)

Its only 287 for regular here in Utah But if I could afford a little scooter with a basket I would do it, when I marketed and set up care in SLC. I have an SUV and its over 35 to fill up every time now ussally every other day and the company refuses to give more money for gas . But here latley its been pouring rain so Then I wouldn't be able to use it on those days .

That little hospitial down the street is starting to look good now It's in walking distance. of my house.

Our mileage is still at 39 cents. It is pretty much a break even on the gas- not counting depreciation and wear and tear on the car. Gas is at $3.09/gallon in SE Tennessee. I think they are waiting to see if gas comes down any before raising mileage, but I don't think the greedy oil companies will drop much below $2.50- we'll think that's a bargain. Our mailman drives his own vehicle because it's a rural route and his is still at 40.5/mile and they too are complaining loudly. It seems that the govt could at least raise the reimbursement rate. If they do that, the hh agencies will have to do something.

Well Ta da our home health aides get 34 cents per mile now but uh the nurses are capped at uh 50.00 per week limit in gas reimbursement. Mind you the county coverage is 7 counties. :rotfl:

You can imagine the miles they put on. I feel bad for them.

Federal Govenment increased to .485cents/mile effective through 12/31/05 gas/mileage allowance. My homecare agency reimbursing at this rate for past month.

Regular gas: $2.89/gal.
