Has anyone worked at the Gallop Indian Hospital in New Mexico? How was the assignment and housing?

I was just submitted for a job there, I've been trying to find travelers who have gone there, no luck. The recruiter I am in the works with did tell me it was one of the bigger cities in that specific area. I have had little luck on finding my own housing there. Hopefully someone will have better insight on this area, and even IHS.
I was just submitted by my agency also. What specific area did you apply to? I worked with someone who went there. Said that the job was ok but the housing wasn't. Have they called you for an interview yet?
I applied for Women's health, I haven't received a call from anyone yet.
I've been calling a lot of the motels in the area. Many don't have monthly rates but the one's that do range from approx 1200 to 3000 a month. The biggest problem seems to be that all motels are by the railroad which runs all night... something that you have to get used to if you are going to work in Gallup. I believe you can set up housing in apartments thru your agencies housing department. My friend did that but didn't like where she was staying at all. That's why I'm checking the local motels.
I looked at two apartment complex's that offer corporate housing. Casamera Apartments and I can't remember the other complex name. Casamera offers a few amenities, I think I could survive in a hotel without a kitchen for three month though.
I really don't which type of housing would be better. Motels or apartments. Did they tell you what the monthly rates would be at the apartments?

Gallup is a dusty little town on the edge of the reservation. I personally really like the area but you should be aware that it is not what many people, especially if you are from the east or a major metro area, are used to. The available rentals in town are adequate, but not luxurious. When I was last there I was housed in a little duplex that was probably built in the 1950s. The railroad is a fact of life as the town grew up because of the railroad and developed along it. This is not meant to discourage anyone, simply to give you a realistic picture.
Now, on to some positives: The Native American culture in the area is quite interesting - there are several different tribes in the area. You can get great buys on jewelry, art, etc. You will be within a few hours drive of the Grand Canyon, the Colorado mountains and ski areas in the winter, about 2 hours from Albuquerque as well as many smaller, less well known attractions.
If you should decide to go for it try contacting the hospital's HR dept. for suggestions of places where other travelers have rented. Feel free to pm me or post here is you'd like suggestions for places/things to do in the area there. And be sure to go to eat at Earl's on Route 66 - it's a local institution!
No I haven't got rates I sent out emails to be contacted
Thanks for the heads up baglady. Are you familiar with Gallup from traveling thru there or did you do an assignment at the hospital there? I have had some experience working on reservations in the past but always like to get some information ahead of time so I know what to expect. Where is Earl's?
I've done several contracts in Gallup over the years at both of the hospitals there.
Earls is on Route 66 just off I40. It's well marked - even has its own spot on the exit signs.
If you decide to go there let me know what you like to do and I can give you lots of day trip and weekend suggestions.
if you've spent time on reservations before you should be good with the population there.
