GA Highlands LPN Bridge-how long before accepted?

U.S.A. Georgia

Hello out there! I am currently an LPN and I have applied to the Georgia Highlands bridge program for fall '09. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has already done this program/currently enrolled, because they said they send out acceptance letters by mail and I am very anxious to know how long that process typically takes!

Thanks so much!

Hey Sharon,

Did you get in? I applied as well and was wait listed. They said my GPA was just under the lowest GPA they took. Now I have to wait to see if anyone does not show up or something. I'm looking into online program but don't know if GA still takes them. Do you know anything?

mysharona....I have a class with another girl at GHC now who applied for the bridge program. She has received her acceptance letter. If you still haven't gotten it, you might want to call the nursing department just to make sure it didn't get lost in the mail somewhere. Good luck!!!!

Hello! I received my letter this week, I was not accepted due to the fact that I am not finished with my pre-reqs ( though I am currently enrolled in the very last one, and will be done in 2 weeks - BIG bummer):crying2:. I don't know how many people they accepted for the bridge, I had at least hoped I would get waitlisted, but no such luck. I have a fairly high gpa and my SAT scores are good, so I am hoping that next year I will get in, since I will be finished with my pre-reqs at that point. Congrats to y'all that got in though!!! :)

Mysharona, don't get let down....Keep on truckin! You'll get through next time.:wshgrt:

Which core class are you taking? I work with someone who is still taking Micro and Diet/Nutrition this semester and she got in. I think something's strange there.

I'm enrolled in the Communication class; I graduated from my LPN program a year ago, and took my boards apr. 7 months ago, but have not begun working as an LPN because I wanted to devote myself full-time to school so I could begin applying to RN programs right away. GA Highlands policy is that, to be eligible for the bridge, you have to either A: graduated within 2 years; or B: Worked at least 1000 hrs w/in the past 6 months. Even though I am still within the 2 year time frame, I really think that my lack of clinical work experience was a big reason I didn't get in, even though that isn't the reason that was given to me.

What made you want to do the LPN program vs. the RN program initially? I was just curious since you mentioned having completed the LPN program, but never worked as a LPN.

Well I had initially applied to Kennesaw State's BSN program a couple years ago but didn't get in, and in an act of desperation I jumped into an LPN program because I just wanted to get my foot in the door- I was discouraged by getting turned down at KSU, so felt like I wouldn't have a chance at any other RN school either ( I was feeling very pessimistic as you can probably tell, haha). I am thinking I probably should have just applied as a traditional applicant, but I really didn't want to take a year of classes that were basically classes I had already taken in LPN school ( nor did I want to pay for it) . I don't have a problem with working as an LPN, but like I said, I wanted to hurry up and take the highlands pre-reqs that I didn't have yet so that I could be ready to apply to the Fall '09 program; I have been looking for a job ( though I'll admit not with extreme vigor due to the reason stated above) and have found it difficult to find much of anything that doesn't require 5+ years of experience. I know there are jobs out there, I just think I must be looking in the wrong place :uhoh21:

Hopefully I will be able to get a job soon, since I will be done with class in 2 weeks and will be able to offer potential employers a much more flexible schedule, and that will help my chances of getting into the bridge program next year.

I think the only online program that GA still accepts is Indiana State University- it's an LPN-BSN bridge. I looked into it about 6 months ago (as well as Excelsior- thank goodness I didn't invest any time/$ into that program, since GA doesn't accept it anymore!) and although it technically is an all-online program, it struck me as being very difficult to do as distance-learning program from this far away because there were a lot of required meetings with advisors and such, and all of it was at the actual campus in Indiana- which obviously is difficult for people outside of Indiana. I didn't look into it too extensively, though, so it is very possible that I missed information about doing the program from another state.

I'm thinking about looking into Indiana State too. I'm gonna meet with some guy next week who works with theCollege Network and he will give me some info. I had heard that if I wanted to do the Indiana State thing I had to go through excelsior too, but I'm not too sure how that works. Where do you live Sharon? Are you looking for hospital or MD office work?

Chattahoochee Tech is supposed to be starting an ADN program in Winter 2010. I just thought I would throw it out there in case you were wanting a change from Highlands. You'll get in somewhere, don't get discouraged. It's all about persistence!
