Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
"This is SB 49:PRO also in the atlanta journal on 2/17/09, I think the AJC is just posting pro's and con's of the bill"
Certainly they are posting Pro's and Con's. The problem isn't that there are 2 sides to the story, the problem is that the President of the Board is the author of the Con. At least that is the way that I see it. I thought when a few of the members were replaced in November, we were headed in the right direction. I know that we still are, but It just seems that she would be very influential to her co-workers. After the bill is passed in the house, it will go the the Gov to be signed into law, then the board has to adopt it before it will effect any of us. That being said, I am a bit worried that they may have the same knee-jerk reaction that we did last year and vow to have the law changed (just like we did). All the while, dragging their feet in adopting the law and preventing us from gaining licensure. I pray that this is not going to be the case, the fact that they have given us the opportunity to petition the board and allowing those enrolled the chance to complete their degree gives me a lot of hope. But, seeing how the pres. of the BON feels.....it stirs up a bit of concern.
By now, most know how the GA BON feel about EC. I hope no one really believes that the higher ups in the GA BON, really had a change of mind. For years they have been trying to find ways to not licence ec grads. They don't want this bill to pass. But hopefully, with prayer, the right people fighting for us, and US fighting for our selves, it will pass.
I feel the same way you do rjlchef, i just want reader to say aware, and informed of all the aspects.
When will the House vote? Thanks for all of your knowledge!
You can follow its progress here:
Has anybody read House Bill 475? Ms. Cooper wants 800 clinical hours to be completed to get a RN in GA if you graduated from a nontraditional school and 2 years of RN experience. Oh and only LPN's are able to be admitted to nontraditional program.
GA schools don't even provide 800 hours of clinical requirements. That is crazy. Our school had to fight over hospital clinical hours. I would like to know what RN school in GA requires 800 hours.
This lady is so twisted it's ridiculous. In that case ALL RN's should have to complete 800 clinical hours.Edited to add: How in the heck do we get 2 yrs of RN experience if you can't even practice in your own state??????
I'd love to know her answer for that.
I guess Sharon Cooper's answer would be: "You don't!" It really gives me a headache to read all of the proposed legislation, but it appears that if this passes, then everything gained in SB 49 might be lost.
Kudos to disneyfan1234 for catching that!!!
I just sent e-mails to SB 49's sponsor, Sen. Hawkins. Surely they are aware of it. I also sent correspondence to my local Reps., and Lt. Governor Cagle & Governor Perdue.
We have support, but they have a lot of other issues, so we MUST keep this in the front of their minds. Don't let her do this to you guys!!!!!!!!!
Oh come on!!!! Just when I was starting to get my hopes back up I went to go check out that House bill 475. I am a paramedic so this would be the end of it for me, AGAIN! I have been getting excited looking at how easily SB 49 passed the Senate that I was starting to regain hope. I guess I have to send out more emails to my representatives about 475 now. I am just afraid this one will get through without anyone knowing exactly what they are voting for and just how big a slap in the face this bill is. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!
