I have changed a G tube one before but it was not a normal situation. I used clean technique, but might not have been sterile technique due to the situation. Need to do a routine change later today. I know the balloon water is sterile, but when doing the change, are sterile gloves required if I have to use another pair other than what comes in the kit? I'm gonna guess not, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Client has had the stoma forever so no open skin, very healthy.
thanks

A routine gastrostomy tube change is not a sterile procedure because the GI tract is not sterile. The patient's very first gastrostomy tube placement by the surgeon would have been sterile, but all routine replacements are performed using clean technique.
