It has become a pain in the butt. Many of the nurses in our healthcare system live in Indiana and work in KY (compact state). We have been notified by administration that we need to get our Indiana compact license before our KY license expires 10/31. KY BON will not renew our KY license. I needed to get my IN license reinstated before applying for the compact. That was a one week process. Now that I have an active Indiana license, I need a background check for the compact license. The problem is that there are very few openings for fingerprinting before mid Sept in the entire state due to the amount of nurses needing fingerprints and COVID restrictions on businesses. You must use a Identogo location in order to electronically obtain your fingerprints. I had to schedule an appointment at a location that is a 2 hr drive.

The Indiana Board of Nursing just announced that the "Indiana Nurse Licensure Compact" will be implemented on 7-1-20. Every nurse who has a compact license will be able to practice in Indiana on July 1, as long as she maintains her legal residence in the state that issued her compact license.
