Future options for nurses Attn Suzanne

Published

I am a BSN nursing student who has a knack for going to other countries. I only wish I knew how to study in other countries... specifically Germany. I was a foreign exchange student there my junior year and fell in love with it. I have not found alot of positive feedback about German nursing and don't want to commit myself to something that is not transferrable and is not fufilling. I don't even know how to go about finding a german hospital to sponsor me...

I can't go to other countries through the the selective services due to health problems, so that is out of the question....

So it follows that I should do my schooling there..maybe... I am worried that it would not transfer well back if I ever decide to come back to America.

My future is up in the air as to what I am looking to do...

I sometimes think I want to be a flight nurse and the school I am going to now in the United States has a good program, but I don't know if that is a field that is needed at this point, specifically a field in other countries.

I don't know what I want to do with my nursing degree when i get it or what my options are. I am hoping this discussion board will help me see my options.

Welcome full of questions. I have no idea how to go about what you are planning. BUT we have a moderator Suzanne4 who has a vast knowledge base. I'm going to copy this to International nursing.

Welcome, first of all. :welcome:

Germany's programs are accepted in the US, in most cases. But you would be considered a foreign grad, and have to go thru possible a credentials verification, or even the CGFNS for some states. Your training will be better if you complete it here and then go there to work. And as for finding a hospital to sponsor you, are you asking for once you complete your training, or while you are completing your training. If you are already in a program here, my suggestion, complete it here. Not all hours will transfer, and you will be starting completely over in many cases.

As for the flight nursing, that is going to be dependent on what your health problems are, if you would be permitted to work in that role, if you are not able to quealify as military. They have strict restrictions also for that.

Hello!

I'm a Rn from Germany! I finished my training as a Nurse there in 2004 and came to the US as An AupAir!

I want to become a Rn here also! I did and passed the TOEFL-Test, did a credential Evaluation Service Thru CGFNS (is required) and my education is accepted here in the US! I take my NC-LEX in september, need time to study!

If you have question you can write me a PM!

Hey full of questions- I seriously think you should think about not studying in Germany. While the studying here is quite okay- it's really great to get payed for going to school because that means no debts when you're done- after the fact is when it starts to get problematic. It's pretty much a dead end job- not even close the oppurtunities that are available elsewhere- especially USA. And right now, it's really difficult for a german to get accepted to nursing school, I think it could be even more difficult for a foreigner. And you would have to speak German as well. Just some food for thought. Good luck with whatever you decide.
