I'm a 22y/o nonexperienced CNA (just got my certification endorsed) moving from out of state to attend nursing school then settle down in Maryland. Ultimately I want to get into pediatrics, preferably the NICU.
I am looking at starting my educational route that will get me there. I started my prerequisites at the University of the Virgin Islands then took 2years off to be a flight attendant. Now, more than ever I know what I want to pursue. I'm looking for schools and wondering if I should take my time and go the ADN route through Community College of Baltimore County CCBC, work a year then do an RN-BSN at Towson or University of Maryland or just transfer straight into a BSN program.
The answer may seem obvious to just transfer but I'm concerned for my GPA which is a sorry 2.8 due to switching from pre-med, failing trigonometry and then switching degree to nursing.
All advice appreciated.

Areas like pediatrics and the NICU are incredibly selective... if you have the option, go for the BSN now.
Thanks for your input.
I'm at bccc completing my prerequisites by utilizing the fall/spring semesters and winter/summer sessions.
I expect to apply by spring 2015 for the BSN.

I would love to work in L&D or some area of pediatrics but would prefer NICU as well. Like the previous poster stated, getting into the NICU is not easy. I would say go straight for the BSN. That's what I'm doing now.

Sounds like pre-med slapped you around pretty hard, focus on your pre reqs before you even think about NICU

You are only 22. Go ahead and get the BSN.

I have four classes left to take (depending on the school I apply to for BSN). Working on AP2 this semester. I expect to take nutrition and socio for summer session and micro in the fall.
