future lpn/lvn folks

ok here i wanna vent a lil..ok im in Texas, and have been around several lvn/lpn folks, they all say same thing, that lvn/lpn nurses are under appreciated..That if you are wanting to be a nurse go for your RN,that those 2 lil letters will make world of diff in pay and respect..my gf is a lvn of 9 yrs in prn pool ,works all over hospital icu, nursery, oncology,er,tele, surg,Ltc,skilled, has such a wealth of knowledge and most nurses think she's a RN..thats why shes going after her RN then crna..says even at 22-26$ a hr depending on if weekend or not,its not worth it..more and more hosp are going all RN ..I just think 1 yr more is worth all the respect, sanity a lvn doesnt get..:banghead:

I think everyone has very personal and different reasons for becoming an LPN. I personally am going for my LPN instead of my RN because my husband is in the military and we can only expect to be at this base for one more year. I don't have time to finish my RN before leaving (I was accepted into the program) Since the program is not NLN accredited I chose not to go and risk credits not being transferred. I will continue on to my RN at our next station.

As to "people" not respecting me because of the two letters behind my name, so be it. Some RN's don't respect LPN's, some Doctors don't respect RN's, some older RN's don't respect new RN's. There is always going to be someone out there who has rationalized a way to feel they are better than you. That is their hang up not mine. I am going to stay on my game plan, hold my head high, and be proud of the fact that I am following my dreams. No matter what the path.

Just my opinion

In most cases respect is something that is earned, no matter what initals you have behind your name. Not everyone has the luxury to go straight to RN, while some people don't even want to become RNs. Everyone has their own path to follow. As long as they end up where they want to be, then so be it, who is anyone to judge them for the hows or whys of their personal choices. In my opinion anyone who chooses a career to provide care to another, deserves praise for their compassion, and willingness to make a difference in someone's life, no matter what their title.

Not everyone is seeking respect, appreciation, and validation from others at the workplace. I go to work for the steady income, not for the respect and approval of my peers.
