I attend a private commuter college in the Detroit area. It's fairly expensive so you would think student focus wouldn;t be much of a problem but it does seem to be.
This evening a young woman in my Algebra class who has been having difficulty with the material was muttering that our instructor, a woman with a very sweet nature, apparently limitless patience and a doctorate in economics, was an idiot.
If you've ever been both annoyed and amused at the same time you'll know what I was feeling as I heard her say this.
Anyhow, I just couldn't help wondering what this young woman is going to do when she gets into the harder classes in the nursing program, provided she makes it. What will she do in A&P? In Pharmacology? In Chemistry? Will her apparent inability to grasp the subject matter cause her to blame her instructors there as well? Will they all be idiots as well?
The dear knows I'm not perfect but I am just so grateful for this opportunity that my immediate assumption when I don't get something is that I need to work harder, not that the person teaching the course is inadequate.
What gets into some people?
ANy similar experiences?

i've experienced too many to write down on paper.:chuckle
some people have grown to understand that when something does wrong, somebody is responsible for it. taking responsibility for their action is not in their lexicon however, we cant blame them, really.
best way of handling such situation would be to ignore it and not let it get to you. as long as u understand the topic at hand, dont waste ur time trying to clarify someone's misunderstanding.
i wish u an A in Algebra:up:

I do think it's sad when people get like that before even starting the hardcore classes...it does make you wonder if they'll even make it that far.
What's painful at my school is that I'm not in the nursing program yet, but there are actual nursing students in my classes and they are doing so bad and they don't do any of the work. I was waitlisted for fall 09 and then denied admission, but these people got in? My school is really competitive and I don't know how these people will survive. I can't wait to apply with perfect grades and get in and hopefully meet some real students.
