Hey Everyone! Was wondering if you could help me out. I'm hosting a baby shower & I am trying to put together a little baby statistics test & thought you guys might know the answer to some of these things:

1. month most babies are born

2. month least babies are born

3. average birth weight

4. average age of a first time mom

5. percentage that are born on their due date

6. day of week most babies are born

7. day of week least babies are born

8. are more babies born during a full moon or rainstorm (old wive's tale?)

...and if you can think of any others

Thanks So Much!!

:lol2::lol2:..Hey krazy, no1..August/September, after Xmas/New Year celebrations!:lol2:

Oh, and the full moon thing,,it Does happen! Sorry, have no stats to back this up, but had a laugh at your post! Good Luck in your findings..enjoy the shower!

Hi krazy! My daughter was born right on her due date. Most sources I've checked say that 5% of babies are born on their actual due date.

Also, according to www.happybirthday.com and www.babycenter.com, TUESDAY is the day most babies are born and SUNDAY has the least. The CDC says that the average age for first time moms in the US is 25 years.

Hope that helps! 10.gif

Somewhere I remember reading the average baby was 7.8 ounces and born at 2pm. This stuck in my head because my first child was 7.8 ounces and born at 2:02PM. Don't remember where I read it though!

yep thats right...

'fewer than 5% of pregnancies end exactly 280 days from the last menstrual period, fewer than half end within one week of the 280th day' (Pillitteri, 2007).

Also, average birth weight is 2.5-3.4kg.

For white mature female baby: 3.4kg

White mature male: 3.5kg. Newborns from other races weigh approx 0.5lb less.

Average length: Female: 53cm, males 54cm.

This infor also from Pillitteri, 2007.

Well, national statistics, not sure. But personally...

1. October (conceived January, coldest month of the year)

2. My guess would be conceived July/August, hottest months of the year...

3. 7# 8oz sounds like a good average

4. 26 for me

5. I believe 5% is correct

6. Mine were born on a Sunday and Thursday

7. Monday??

8. this one is true. It's something to do with the barometric pressure. Snowstorms too!

Have fun! :balloons:

The most babies are born 9 months after a black out!!! I guess their isn't any thing else to do.;)

Our busiest months are Sept/Oct, like someone else said. Lots of "presents" being given over the holidays. :)

Slowest is probably December, at least for us.

The full moon/rainstorm IS true, I don't care what studies have been done to show otherwise.

Fridays are our busiest days, Sundays usually the slowest.

Fun thread!

See, I'd think that less babies are born on Sundays, b/c no doc is going to induce or do c/s on a Sunday.

Wow, I feel so....average. Both my boys were born on Tuesdays, one in August. I was born on Wed. in August. Mine were 7#4oz and 7#11oz. I was 7#9oz.

But...they were both born on their due dates!! I didn't realize that was so rare. :lol2:

I have read that aug has the most births. Starts getting cold in nov!lol
