Full-time mom in VA Beach needs a school!

U.S.A. Virginia

Hi all! We'll be moving from San Diego to VA Beach in June (military family). I'm ready to apply to nursing programs, but am quite unsure which school to choose! I already have a B.A., so I don't necessarily need a BSN.

I've spent the last two months researching the Hampton Roads area schools. One program that caught my eye was the Norfolk State evening/weekend program?! From what I can tell on the web page, you attend two evenings a week and all day Saturday. Does anybody know of this program? I've left two messages for the department advisor (?), but haven't received a call back.

Ideally, I'm looking for a good program that will take into consideration my B.A./general ed credits and importantly, a program that is somewhat flexible for stay-at-home moms. (2 kids ages 4 and 2) or, a school with a decent daycare/preschool.

Also, on another subject, does anybody know the "reputation" of St. Gregory the Great's elementary school?!

One last thing...have been trying to find the NCLEX-RN passing rates for the various school. Is there an internet site that lists the results? Heard anything around the "grapevine" about passing rates? Esp. ODU, NSU, Hampton, etc.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOU HELP!!! I'm lost... :rotfl:

I used to live in Virginia. Look into Old Dominion University in Norfolk. They offer a BSN degree (I"m sure it wouldnt take too long since you have a degree already) and they have supposedly a 99-100% NCLEX pass rate for their graduates. My personal opinion......Old Dominion is much better than Norfolk State. Also, look on the internet for the Virginia Community College System for a listing of all community colleges in VA. Some should have ADN programs. Hope this helps.

hi:

i just had to say hi. it's so coincidental that i read your message first and my (military) family and i are moving to VA beach the end of this month. my husband is in the navy.

and i wanted to tell you that i know that feeling of being lost. i'm a nursing student from philly and i'm trying to transfer into a good program, but i don't know where to go. right now, i'm looking into hampton.

how is your search going?

have you considered community colleges? Tidewater Community College is the local CC in the Hampton Roads area. Its the program I'm currently enrolled in....they have an evening program every other year for LPN, Corpsmen, EMT/Paramedics, etc. I am in the day program, which goes Mon-Thurs.

Hey there, Riverside School of Professional Nursing is my school - it has an Evening/Weekend program. Takes 3 years.

I had to respond - it's not often you meet other Marine wives in the Virginia Beach area - I'm assuming you are stationed at Camp Elmore? I lived in San Diego for 6 years (1992-1998). I think the advice others gave you - Old Dominion, TCC, et. al. are pretty good. Have you found a school yet?
