FSW FALL 2018

Published

Hello Everybody. My name is Keesh. I'm starting this thread a little early to get a head start on things. I was looking into starting nursing school in the Spring of 2018, but things come up. Now I'm going to start in the FALL. I'm currently looking into the FSW ANEW program which works better with my work schedule. I was told by a student the ANEW program is just like being in the FULL TIME program except it's online. It consist of hard work, time consuming and dedication. I plan to apply for LEE campus as well.

*CHOW

Thank you for the insight:) I did chat with an ANEW student. She said power points suffice for test prep. Most instructors give study guides, and the demonstration of ANEW program effectiveness is between them and traditional across the board, all exams grades are nearly the same. Good info.

Talked to nursing dept person today. I forget her name. The ANEW schedule is 4 semesters, no summers, 1 weekend day, and 1 OR MORE nights per week. Shouldn't be more than 2. Depends on the instructor. This is different from information circulating among pre-nursing students that I have heard/read. Just some FYI.

Yup, that sounds exactly like the current ANEW program on my campus. The weekend day is your clinical day, and the 1 or 2 weekdays are your pharmacology review or skills lab day. In case you haven't heard what time the night classes are, they are 5:30pm - 8:30pm or so. You did get the most current information from whoever you spoke to. Hope that helps!

Know your stuff for the TEAS exam, I know they tweak it a little bit every season and no two people generally have the exact same exam (just like the NCLEX). Pharm is going, we're trying to advocate for incoming classes to see if the faculty will adjust how the class is taught. It's all online and a lot of information. We have a test on at least 15 chapters per exam (approx 300 pages) and that's about every 2 weeks. At this point, we're all trying to find a way to memorize the drugs, there's a lot of them and what the book gives and what ATI gives are slightly different so we need to know both, or at least be comfortable with information from both sources.

Do well on your TEAS!

I take it at the end of the month will keep u posted

Traditional is 3 days a week to start, and builds to 4 days a week over the semesters. You will end up having progressively longer clinical. We started at 8 hours for the clinical day, and now transitioning to 8.5 to 9 hour days, eventually during the 3rd and 4th semesters, those clinicals are going to be 12 hours. If you're in the ballpark of about 80 - 85% on the TEAS, you should be okay for Lee, but try to retake it if you can. I used the TEAS manual from ATI and their 2 practice tests online bundle for my exam review. Those questions were fairly similar to what I had on the TEAS.

With traditional being 3-4 days a week how long is your program? 18 months or 24 months?

Took the TEAS today y'all. Got an 82. Daughter got an 83. Not bad for 1st try. Will retake towards the end of this semester, and with more A&P 2.

Both of you doing which program and which campus?

Yeah I'm in between ANEW and traditional idk what I want to do yet 🤷🏾*♀️🤔🤔

Hey, my program is 24 months since I started in the Spring. It's 20 months if you start in the Fall.

You can apply for both ANEW and traditional at the same time unless they changed the application. Then, it just depends on where you stack up against the other people trying to get into the same program. If I remember correctly, you rank the three campuses and the two programs by preference. The programs are almost identical and use pretty much the same clinical sites, so just decide whether you want to have your classes during the day vs online, and lab time during the day vs in the evening.

Charlotte is my pref. Nursing person told me we can pick traditional and ANEW options. Doesn't have to be 1 or the other. Im thinking: if there is 1 weekend day, 1 week night, some semesters there are more, and there are proctored exams required weekly, there isn't much less physical attendance required for ANEW than traditional. And that's my factor: how much time away from home. All things equal I prefer traditional. But I might have to commute 2 hours!!!!!!!! in a couple semesters. Just. Want. To. Be. A. Nurse. Damn. Turns out, i habe to go to school to learn how to save lives and poke people with needles.

Lol well I'm doing lee campus and I would have to drive 1 1/2 so I guess it'll all pay off. Thankfully we have 20 months instead of 24. I'm excited

Oh my May15 is around the corner then it is the 3-4wk waiting game. I took my TEAS yesterday and scored a 78%, but b/c it is the Fall that I'm applying to and Fall is normally competitive I am going to retake it soon. Quick question. Have any of you heard that once we get selected there will be an interview?
