Hello Everybody. My name is Keesh. I'm starting this thread a little early to get a head start on things. I was looking into starting nursing school in the Spring of 2018, but things come up. Now I'm going to start in the FALL. I'm currently looking into the FSW ANEW program which works better with my work schedule. I was told by a student the ANEW program is just like being in the FULL TIME program except it's online. It consist of hard work, time consuming and dedication. I plan to apply for LEE campus as well.
*CHOW
Do not apply for ASN at FSW. This program is horrible - Limited, extremely poor quality instruction, instructors that are more concerned about failing students than helping them, and too much focus on "concepts" rather than on real world clinical applications. Homework assignments consist of drawing family member's/tree, writing a daily journal, and APA style papers. Ridiculous! The instructors provide little if any feedback and don't follow their own syllabus when grading assignments - it's all subjective. This was the worst academic experience ever for me. Very, very disappointed. A complete waste of time, money, and energy.
When did you start the program, summer or fall of 2017 or spring 2018? Are you still in the program?
But isn't the ANEW program supposed to be a self-guided program? That was my understanding. Aside from clinicals and sim labs, it is basically up to the student to learn the material.
Yes, you are correct in assuming this. The ANEW program is designed to trade off instruction from professors for flexibility, so that the program can fit into the lives of those students with busy schedules. It is for students who can't be at a specific place and time for a 90-120 minute lecture. FSW is quite clear on the fact that the ANEW schedule is self paced and requires a lot of time management/self motivation.
When it comes down to it, we as students are given the text, the assigned reading, and the time to go over the material. What each student makes of it is up to them. In nursing school (regardless of the school/program) a 90-120 minute lecture won't be the determining factor on whether material is learned or not since most material is committed to memory through extensive self studying anyway. Lectures alone may get you by in prerequisite classes, but not nursing classes. I've actually made the choice to skip some of my optional lectures and exam reviews because I felt that I was more productive going over material on my own in my own way.
I'm sorry that the student above had a bad experience. I know that the classes that began the ANEW program when that format just came out in 2017 got off to a rocky start. Perhaps that is part of the reason for the bad experience. By now the program has been improved a great deal compared to the beginning, from what I hear. My experience so far is contrary to the negative review that was posted above and the same can be said for many of my friends with me in the program. I do however agree that a couple of the assignments are a waste of time and are busy work, but I'm sure that is the case for most programs. The heath and wellness instructor that I had answered all of my emails within hours and she even gave us her cell number to text her with concerns and questions in the evenings/weekends. Also, all of the exams that I took lined up with the assigned reading/assignments.
For those who have committed to start the program at FSW, you have made a good choice. Don't be discouraged by the fact that some people have had a bad experience. It will be the case for every nursing program out there, I'm sure. Work hard, apply yourself, and take it upon yourself to learn the material and you will have a good experience.
Hey everyone! I have been watching since the beginning of this post. I initially did not get accepted, but I kid you not, Wendy emailed me last friday (July 27th) saying she had a seat open in the Charlotte ANEW program so obviously I accepted. So as you could bet I have been FREAKING out because I have such a short short amount of time to get everything done! I asked to be apart of the group on Facebook. So excited for the semester to start!!! I have everything complete now besides one last vaccine I will get tomorrow. But I'm sure my scrubs will be here late because I had to order so late! Looking forward to meeting everyone!!! :)

Congrats! I am sure they will work with you on getting stuff squared away since it was such a last minute acceptance.
Hello everyone I got accepted into Spring 2018 Lee Traditional program and since then I have decided that nursing is not for me unfortunately. I know this is really last minute but I have all the books you would need for the nursing program. Not the ATI access code but just the four books. If anyone wants them let me know and I'll sell them to you for cheaper than what I paid which was like a little over 900 dollars if I remember correctly. Let me know!! :)
Hi everyone! I'm in Charlotte traditional for fall 2018 and looking forward to it. Just had a question. Any idea of what we should be wearing to our clinical orientation day? I k ow the first day of class we have practicum which means we should wear our kakhi and polo but for the clinical orientation day should we be wearing scrubs or no because it's just orientation on campus? Probably a silly question but there's so many dress code things that I just want to ensure I don't miss anything. Thanks! :)
Wear your scrubs. Clinical orientation counts as a clinical experience. You should be getting more information from your instructor closer to the start of classes.

Hey everyone! Congratulations on graduating this semester!
I'm hoping someone can answer my questions about ANEW level 3.
We have 2 classes scheduled; women's health and health alterations. But since I'm in ANEW those 2 classes are labs. Can anyone tell me if those labs are run like simulations (every couple of weeks) or is it more like practicum (every week)?
