FSCJ Nursing Fall 2016

Published

Hello everyone!

I haven't come across a thread for FSCJ Fall 2016 yet, so I wanted to make one. I know it's a little early, but I'm really excited! Who is planning on applying for this term? If anyone has gone through the process of the program already please give us advice.

Looking forward to talking with all of you and good luck!:)

@MegDRhodesI really want to do it but I am scared to spend all the money and then not find a job. Which nursing home did you work at? I don't have prior experience :( I really need this though because I have so much free time.

Did you have experience in a hospital patient setting before getting your CNA? How was your resume set up ?

@nicolemaza

No before I got the nursing home job I only volunteered at a million places which were on my resume. You can find a lot of hospitals to volunteer at. Most CNAs get nursing home jobs at first due to the need of experience with the hospital job requirements. I worked at a small nursing home in middleburg for a little while. I was very lucky to get a job at the VA because I am a recently separated veteran and they have veterans preference. You can be a home health aid which is a CNA job that just takes care of someone at their home, like a house nurse. I have heard of people getting jobs at shands without any experience you could try there. also when I went through acume they knew a lot of people who were hiring, you can ask them as well.

@andielbc You said you work as a CNA. I can only afford to get my CNA at acumen. They have told me that it is florida certified course but do you think hospitals will hire me if I do it there? Or do you know anyone who has gotten hired from acumen?

Hey, there. Sorry for the super late reply. The important thing is to take the board test at a licensed center. Technically you can take the exam without taking a CNA class, but I really recommend taking the class, as it will prepare you for any scenario during the exam. Where I took my test, my instructor was a nurse and she knows all the ins and outs of the exam. We were even given a chance to look at the room where the test is given so we can get an idea of where things are.

As far as being hired, I suggest you apply wherever you feel comfortable working. I'm currently at a nursing home because it's where my mom worked and the DON has known me for years. If you know anyone that is a CNA at a hospital or nursing home, talk to them. Usually there are employee referral bonuses and that's a great incentive to have people talk you up. (We currently have that where I work, they're very badly in need of people.) And most places are more willing to hire folks that have been recommended by current employees.

Keep in mind that working at a nursing home is very different from working at a hospital. But it does give you the experience you need if you want to move on to the hospital setting.

Hope this helps!

Hey everybody. I just turned in my application on Friday after completing the HESI. Still taking microbiology, but feeling extremely relieved that the test is over and app is in. Sitting at 201.3 points, and feeling cautiously optimistic based on previous years cutoffs...but still nervous! I'm a career changer going back to school after having my bachelor's in another field. I considered the Accelerated BSN programs, but I think this would be more affordable?

Its almost the first!!! I'm so excited and anxious :)

So I'm thinking sometime around next week I will start the Facebook group for our semester since the application deadline will be over. I will post a link on here. I have no idea when our approximate graduation date is. Lol so idk what the c/o info is for us...wishing everyone the best of luck! The time is coming faster than I thought it would. :)

Thanks for the advice everyone! I have no idea when we graduate either? Lol. I think december of 2017 from what I have heard! I am so excited and nervous! The time is almost here :) yay!!!

Good Morning! I dropped off my application a couple weeks ago. I had 217 or 218 points (I don't remember ) so I have high hopes of starting this fall. I am looking forward to getting to know you all! Good luck to all of you!

That's a great idea MegDRhodes! Let us know when you do! :)

Hello Everyone! I have submitted my application as well! I had 210 points so I hope that is enough to get into the fall class! I want to wish everyone the best of luck!
