FSCJ Fall 2015 Hopefuls

Published

I know it is a little early for this but I just didnt want to wait. I want to see where everyone stands on their classes and when they will be or have taken the HESI. I am enrolled in my last two prerequisites and I will be starting them in January which are my A&P2 and Micro. I am hoping to take the HESI either in February or March after I have had most of my classes finished.

I also received the packet from Cheryl and started calculating my points as I go. Ready to get this next semester finished and the HESI completed.

Hi all! I'm a hopeful as well. Just checking in! í ½í¹ˆ

I wish we had a idea of how many people applied for fall, I would feel so much better

Thanks and apologies to those who endured my panicked ranting on Wednesday. Things did manage to work themselves out, and my application for Fall 2015 WAS submitted in time. Total points 193.5. I'm taking Micro during the first Summer session, so at least I'll have something else to focus on while enduring the LONGEST. WAIT. EVER.

Again, thanks for putting up with my venting and for talking me down from the crazy ledge!

I have Lourdes Norman @ Deerwood for a hybrid course--I'm truly looking forward to it!

I've been a science junkie since July 1981, when my parents woke me and my brother in the middle of the night and took us outside to watch a lunar eclipse. My interests range from biology to astrophysics to the human genome to quantum mechanics to particle physics...and on and on. I devour articles and research on anything and everything that piques my curiousity, but only ever as a hobby--a dorky, dorky hobby. I mean, when I went to college the first time, I majored in English, then worked in auto finance for, (what felt like), eleventy billion years!

My decision to go back to school and pursue a Nursing career, at this point in life (*cough*midlife crisis*cough*), has been bolstered by my genuine enjoyment of the three science prereqs (A&PI&II, Chem) I've taken so far. I'M READY TO GET ON WITH ALL OF IT ALREADY!! :woot:

I forgot to add, I turned in my application with 193.5 points. Praying that it's enough. My brain is fried from the HESI. Got it finished in an hour and 45 minutes with a overall score of 93. :whistling:

Hesi break down for me : math: Lots of ratios, 50:3::5000:x type of problems , know your decimals, fractions (how to add subtract, multiply and divide ) how to turn decimals into percentage and vice versa, and metric system questions.

Biology: parts to cells and what they do. Krebs cycle and cellular respiration. Mitosis, meiosis, and types of cells (prokaryotic , eukaryotic)

anatomy and physiology - bones, muscles, locations, tissues, types of tissues, brain, heart and what the functions of cells do (osteoclasts , lymphocytes etc)

hope this helps the next batch of hopefuls.

Sounds like the content on my HESI also. I had lots and lots of proportions, which I haven't seen for many years now. My math also had several simple conversions (e.g. oz to ml) within word problems. I didn't study for that and it cost me a strong math score.

I actually didn't study for the HESI at all. If you did well in the prerequisite courses, you should just need to bush up on functions of cells, cellular reproduction, and cellular respiration (I had one about nerve cells, which I couldn't recall at all). Without studying, my overall score on the HESI was 89.5. I wish I would have taken it six months previous, brushed up on the math, then go on to retake it. If lurkers have that opportunity, I strongly suggest doing that!

Hey everyone! So, if I have counted up my scores correctly (I feel like I have not. Hoping Im not the only one that feels that way) I have 213.8 with my 4 year work experience. Without my work experience I have 193.8. With everyone posting their grades and all, I dont know why my score would be that high? IM NOT COMPLAINING! I just dont want to have false hopes. My HESI cumulative scores was 70%!! I pretty much did not do good on the test and that's because I found out about the deadline a week before April 1st and took the test ASAP! My prereq scores were As and Bs and one C in mirco. It would be a dream come true to get in the program!

Does anyone know what is the highest possible score you can get?

I believe the highest score for grades and the HESI is 240...then additional points for work experience (I think there is a max).

Kristin

Yes I think you're right Kristin! If I remember correctly there was a total of 240 possible points for the HESI exam and grades together then I think an additional max of 20 points for work experience. So 260 total!

1 week down :wacky:

Ugh.

So what is everybody doing to help pass this ever so slowly moving time?

Kristin

I am still taking classes. By the time our program starts, I should have all of the non-nursing classes completed for both the associates and bachelors program.
