Frustrated New Grad

Published

I am a 21 year old new grad LPN. I am two weeks into my first LPN job in a LTC facility 1 hour away. This was the only job offer I had at the time so I took it even tho I was unsure. I am extremely unhappy in this facility. I work 12 hours on day shift with 38-40 residents. I am beyond overwhelmed.

Today, I got a job offer in Med-Surg on night shift about 10 minutes from my home. The hospital is frequently referred to as a band aid shop. Anyways , I am considering taking it and just going PRN at the nursing home.

Can anyone give me any advice? How to handle night shift? Am I making a smart decision?

If you are truly unhappy with the job you have, do not force yourself to continue to work for that facility. Have you toured the med surge unit you got the offer on, have you taken a look at the hospital and the people you will be working with?

Before I accepted any jobs, I requested a tour of the hospital and a tour of the unit I would be on and it was never a problem.

I say this because one particular hospital I toured, online sounded so great and looked so great. But when I actually got there, the floor was dark and seemed dreary and the staff didn't smile and seemed like they did not want to be there.

I would apply to several more hospitals and see what comes about!
