From RN to private industry ? (wanting more $$$)

Published

I genuinely enjoy what I do, and think I do a good job at it. However there are things I want from life that I quite simply wont be able to afford doing what I do and how I do it, and I am young enough to know that while I enjoy this now, I will NOT enjoy doing this for the next 10-20-30 years.

Anyone have any good advice how I could move from doing clinical/managerial nursing work into the private industry, somewhere where there will be many more opportunities to make money and get promoted long term ?

I already have an MSN and MBA, as well as both clinical and managerial experience (not much managerial experience, but a very clear progressive pathway where my responsibility and title have increased)

I have looked briefly at insurance companies, but wouldnt even know where to start about finding out how to get into one of them.

And yes I know its not easy to get more money or else everybody would do it, but I have already begun to make moves to advance my career, and would like to have a plan to take myself even further

Specializes in retired LTC.

My sister went though the headhunter route and got into clinical research as a CRA. Worked in pvt industry like auditing clinical studies performed by research projects. Big Pharm needs those efficacy research trials in order to obtain FDA approval for new drugs.

She had to have a passport for travel abroad. She worked with PharmDs, PhDs, MDs, other clinicians, nat'l and internat'l. They liked experienced nurses who were detail detail detail.

Total different career than just working at a bedside measuring BPs after a blind study blue placebo administered.

I remember Univ of Delaware had a cert program, but never checked it out.

She moved to insurance. She just applied to a posted job opening advertisement. Others have gotten in that way.
