From CNS to NP - UMass Boston?

Published

Has anyone done an online program? I a Clinical Nurse Specialist student (I've taken all my classes literally with FNP students). I would like to get my NP online in a short amount of time since I will be already an APN in my state (I am moving and need the NP to practice in the new state).

Did you do the UMass boston program? Has anyone who is NOT an NP done the 12 hour option? For example a CRNA to NP I want to know if I qualify? I have all the admission requirements for the NP 12 hour option but they keep telling me I have to take 21 hours and I don't understand because I have all the classes and experience for the 12 hour!

Thanks friends!

I thought the UMass program looked intriguing because of how short it was.... then I tried to contact someone with questions. Oy. In my experience (a few months ago), there was only one person to contact with questions. I had multiple questions and when I asked her if I could call and have a short conversation with her, she basically said no. She wanted me to just email her my questions. I just got this feeling that she wouldn't make time for her students/potential students, so I took my questions (and $$$) elsewhere. My instructors now are easily accessible, and I spoke with the adviser about 3 times before I applied to the program to make sure I was headed in the right direction.

That's just my experience with UMass, I hope yours is better.

good luck.

Do you know of a good online program? that is affordable?

I applied to St. Louis University and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I ultimately chose UCCS. I can't remember how much it is per credit hour, but I can check when I get home. Send me a message if you want me to look up that info for you.

I am an adult Med Surg CNS who just finished the Adult Gero primary care NP post-masters. The program was relatively straight forward. I paid probably about 11K all said and done. You cannot count your CNS hours to your NP. You need another separate 600 clinical hours. I looked and this was the cheapest, fastest and most convenient 100% online.

I feel that I was well prepared to pass the ANCC exam. I didn't find that the classes were nearly as interactive online as what I had from TCU for my CNS.

I am a CNS and have been accepted into UMASS Boston's online Adult-Gero NP program. I am not sure about clinical hours. I live in Virginia and was told that I have to complete my clinical hours at a VA, Army,Federal , or out of state facility. Did you have to comply with that stipulation. Did you attend the program full time? How many hours did you allocate for classes? Did you have trouble with communication? Sorry to ask so many questions but I have read a lot of negative post, especially dealing with clinical hours.

Did you decide on UMASS Boston?

Is anyone currently enrolled in UMASS Boston's Adult/Gero NP program? Did they give you any clinical stipulations?

You have to have a contract with the facility to have a clinical there. I had no problems with clinicals, just the hours and still working full time

hello moonshadeau!

I will be starting this Fall for the post master AGNP. Can you share your experience with your classes? I am still working full time and will be doing Primary care of Adults and Primary Care of Family (300 clinical hours). Do you think I should separate the two or is it doable? How are your prefessors and their lectures? Are the exams easy or hard? i am having a lot of anxiety doing the program online. Any information will be helpful!
