Hello everyone,
I am currently at a cross-roads. I have been pursuing my BS while working full-time in the healthcare industry (business administration side)...I am exactly at the half point with my studies and find myself considering a career in nursing.
I spent a year and a half traveling to 13 different hospitals training OR nurses and got to see what they do. I was training them on how to use a barcode scanner to scan implants.
I spend my off-time volunteering as much as i can helping others, meals-on-wheels, project angel food, etc. I feel happiest when I am helping people directly, rather than running savings analysis that might or might not help patients.
I would like to hear the experiences of anyone who changed careers in their late 20s or early 30s to nursing. If you already are a nurse after making the change, is it everything you hoped for? (though i understand perfect is in the eye of the beholder)
thank you all for your input in advance.

I would look at the websites of any BSN schools you're interested in. They usually have lots of good information on pre-reqs. I transferred my transcripts, talked to a counselor, and figured out what pre-reqs to take in order to apply. I took all my pre-reqs and applied. It was a process but it was pretty straight forward.
Thanks Getgoing,
I just checked on it. I will have to figure out a way to go and see the counselor and find out more about it. Accelerated programs looks very challenging. In 12 months you are done and you get your BSN. Why even worry and wait for doing an ADN? My challenges come mostly because I have 3 children(11, 4 &2) , travelling far will become a problem since I dont have my family here or anyone close to take care of them. I am looking for options. Hope I can figure something out.
Thanks to all!
I'm in the same position. I'm coming up on 30, have a business degree, and have been thinking about nursing for a while now. I've been kicking myself for a year or so now because of the degree I went with (I left the military and was a "professional" student for two years to finish my degree). At that time, nothing really interested me. I was just going for the degree that I could finish quickly.
I've already accepted the fact that I'll be taking a big pay cut to transition career fields. I think it's more important for me to get into a field that has some amount of job satisfaction though.
The one issue I'm seeing is that there doesn't appear to be BSN program that supports students who are currently working full-time. Is anyone aware of a school (in Virginia or that has labs in Virginia) that caters to working students?
I've even entertained just getting a two year RN, starting work, and getting the BSN when I can (Mary Washington pays for college courses).

Hello to everyone ..
I know Iam a year late in enquiring about something. But here it is to Getgoing..Can you tell me how did you start about with the accelerated program? What does the college need and so on.
I have a bachelor's degree from India in commerce. Its only a 3yr program. I had my papers evaluated. They kinda say its an equivalency of BBA in the U.S. Fastfwd..I have just done my pre-reqs for the ADN prgram and have just applied to the community college in Texas.
Does anyone think I can accelerate my bach. to a BSN prog or do I drag myself all they way? What is the criteria to do such a daring thing.? What other pre-reqs would I need to be doing the BSN? Would very much appreciate some input about it. Anyone who has a knowledge about this can answer. I would appreciate every effort .
Thanks:thankya:
