I am a nursing student going to university in the United States. I am wanting to work in the UK once my schooling is completed and I have worked a year. I was hoping someone might be able to advise me as to what all is required of me to bring about this goal. I am in addition an Austrian citizen. So, as a citizen of a country in the EU, with a prospective BSN from the United States, what need I do to work in the UK?

You will need to meet the Nursing and Midwifery councils requirements for registration which can be found on their website, this will require post registration experience, and minimum educational requirements. This will include an overseas nursing programme as you'll be training in the US

As a EU citizen you will be able to apply for jobs once you have registration, NHS jobs can be found here

The US training is very different compared to the UK training, notably fewer nursing hours, but everyone who has a 4 year straight BSN that I've been able to find has not had a problem with the NMC despite this, as they know that we have different training than the UK. But I would urge you not to base your decision based on what I've been able to find because it is your future, after all, and quite a lot riding on it if you take advice without question from a stranger...

I think you may have to do a little research on the 'benefits' bit. And the cost of living can be extortionate in some states.
The benefits are definitely better in the UK, hands down. But the salary is quite different...I've compared on the Band 5 scale with a few points, plus the extra London $$ and I'd still be taking pretty much a 40% pay cut (I live in a metropolitan area on the east coast, not NYC). DH is British and says that we Americans are workaholics...and he's totally right.
Housing is an issue over there, though. I've got a friend in Reading (Caversham) and DH is from Sheffield (Rotherham) and their parent's houses are super tiny but cost about the same for double the size of my parent's house in the Pacific Northwest, mortgage-wise. And I could not believe that both families shared just one bathroom! But, I suppose I am very spoiled. Or so, DH tells me, haha :) On the other hand, I'm sure LA, NYC, DC homes are exorbitantly expensive for the amount of space you get...
I can imagine that it's pretty hard for the OP to swallow the lack of benefits and paid maternity leave that Europeans take for granted. I might be the same if I grew up in that culture...
