Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone

Tweety hope your drive home was OK

NJ22 glad the weather wasn't too bad there

Stars that's disappointing that she won't be coming, although probably safer given she has strep

Dianah that sounds like a good recipe

Hi Ado and TMB

The first part of yesterday was a bit of a mess.  The Winter weather was worse than I expected, driving downtown to the aquarium took twice as long as I had expected.  And when I got there I found it was not only dull but crowded with school groups.  So I only stayed a short time

The 2nd half was better.  Drove to my previous neighborhood and stopped at a favorite Middle Eastern restaurant.  Then at a fairly unique toy shop for some things for my niece for Christmas.  Then at a bookstore there that I liked, found out it was closing soon.  Finally at a coffee shop before heading home.  Watched a movie and exercised and took it easy

Today should be pretty ordinary, unless something new or unexpected at work.  Supposed to meet dad tomorrow but he might have to cancel, he's been experiencing unusually severe diarrhea, probably in relation to his antibiotics.  He's seeing the doctor today, hopefully they can find something to address the symptoms

Going to be somewhat warmer today, in the low 40s with no snow or rain expected

It' a balmy 52 degrees, with high clouds, and no rain, snow, or big winds.

I know it's Friday because the trash barrels are out at the street. 😏  I need visual clues! Usually I have to look at my phone for the correct day and date.

The only thing I really HAVE TO do is take a shower and wash my interestingly styled hair, which I think is sometimes referred to as "bed-head." And of course there are the usual laundry/dishes to do, and in a while I have to get Nannie up.

I woke up last night, well, early this morning: 2:30 AM, because my hearing-ear dog suggested that something was astir downstairs, and sure enough, there was Nannie sitting in her recliner in total darkness. She didn't know how long she had been up, or why she was up, and I got her back to bed fairly easily. She is having more gaps in her thought-process in her brain these days. Doesn't know her left from her right, and when you say "turn into the bathroom" she points to the bedroom and says "Here?" and the same if I say "bedroom" ....invariably she starts to turn to go back into the den. Those are the only 2 other rooms down there besides the den, so anyone else would not get confused, but she does, regularly.

So other than holding down the fort, I have nothing on my agenda.....that I currently KNOW of !

Guess I should get into the shower now, or I will have to postpone it another day and feel grody all day. Yech!

I DOOD IT!! (as Red Skelton used to say.) I am CLEAN:  showered, shampooed, dried and dressed. Hallelujah! Of course, when I came downstairs, there was Nannie in her recliner, dressed with yesterday's tops....not only inside out, but also reversed! I went ahead and gave her the usual yogurt, cran juice, meds, and chocolate BOOST. This is one lady who will drink everything you hand her to drink, unusual for an elderly woman, in most of my previous experiences with them. Though when you say, "Are the pills all gone?".....with her lips puckered, she says, 'um-hmm'.....so you KNOW they aren't, so then we have to do the swallowing instructions, so she won't spit them out into her hand.

Okay, time to get her up to the bathroom, washed up, change pull-ups and pads, and get her  redressed. When I said that to her, her eyes lit up and she said, "Are we going out?" No, not that I know of! (Her face falls in disappointment.) My SiL has created a monster by taking her out and about, and it's so sad that 30 seconds after she gets back in the house and looks out at the car I just got her out of, she says, "Are we going to go somewhere?"  *sigh*

I take back what I said about the wind out there.....it IS QUITE windy!

Nanny had to give up her inside-out and backwards clothes....she had been wearing them for 3 days. When she said, "so what?" I asked her if she wanted to wear them wet? Of course, they weren't wet, but they ARE due for a washing! So now she is admiring (...over and over and over again) the aubergine pants, a lilac turtleneck sweater with arms long enough to to pull down below the jacket sleeves (an absolute MUST these days!) and burple (not purple...."Burple" is a deeper shade!) and black patterned jacket, her maroon shoes and socks. Her repeated comments of "Look, look!" has already started up, with regards to her outfit. 🙄 I guess it could be worse; at least she is happy!

Doing MY laundry first today, and her laundry load will be 2nd in line. Got to put myself first some of the time!

Hello all!

No Stars, tell Nannie for me, she looks very nice today (love the aubergine and lilac, AND matching shoes/socks!).  You are a wizard of design and coordination, my dear!  Glad you got your shower, it's so nice to be freshly clean.

Joe, what a disappointment at the aquarium.  Glad you got some good food, though, in the former neighborhood!  Hope your dad is better soon.  AND, I hope work is without drama today!

I will make soup today, and that will last us for a few days' suppers.  I am mentally gearing up to bake cookies a week from Sunday, to take with us to visit friends.  I haven't baked this recipe in years, though it is my favorite (I think I share it here every year, about this time :D).  Spice cookies with Pumpkin Dip.  Yummy (and SO bad for me!  I will not be eating many, if any... got to preserve my lab values!)!  Dh likes them too.

Have a good afternoon and evening!

G'day.

All is well.  Made the 11 hour drive, but let G drive a couple of hours when I got too tired.  Dogs and house are all in order and all is well.

Windy, shower-y, mixed with sun breaks. There is a high wind warning until 2 am. But so far, winds are not bad. I made it to the gym this morning, then hope to do a little clean up as the grandsons will be here for the weekend. Their mum is at a conference, dad is working nights. I suppose I will be making pancakes in the morning.

We went to oldest grandson's robotics meet last night. His team competed in 3 rounds--1 tie, 1 win, 1 loss. This is his first year, so that seems pretty respectable. He seems to with his "tribe" (what I used to call nerds) and having fun. Tonight youngest grandson is going to a string quartet that plays covers of contemporary music. He is learning cello, so I hope he feels inspired.

I went to the grocery store to get ingredients for dinner for tonight and tomorrow. Creamy chicken with mushrooms and snow peas tonight, spaghetti tomorrow. Half the time I don't even cook, so this is a change for me. Cookie baking tomorrow, I guess. dh keeps saying he is going to bake, but then the day goes by, and at 830 pm, he exclaims, "where did the day go?"

Joe, I'm glad your day straightened out. I hope your dad doesn't end up with c. diff.

Welcome home, you two!  I'm sure the dogs are thrilled you are home!

I am currently in the process of making the Chicken Tomatillo Soup.  It's cooking now, and then in a few minutes I need to add more ingredients.  Smells good!

A few weeks ago I browsed through a new Dollar Store nearby, and bought some new dishcloths and towels.  They were polyester, but I thought they'd be OK.  Well, as we have used them, we agreed we needed something more absorbent.  So I cruised on Amazon and ordered some 100% cotton towels/dishcloths, which arrived today.  WHAT a difference!  They are wonderful!  The other towels/clothes have been relegated to the Cleaning Supplies pile!!  It's the little things, doncha know, that make the difference!

Later!

I'm torn between making a snide comment that "we've reached the age where we're excited about dish towels" and asking you for the link.  LOL

LOL!!  My kids have remarked how they used to hate us giving them socks and underwear for Christmas, and now they would welcome such gifts, LOL!
