Yoga at the library was canceled last night due to the severe weather we had. I could have gone in the afternoon but couldn't make myself get up. (Worked med/surg 11p-7a). There were a lot of tornados all around but not really close to us. I made Hubs put the TV coverage on. It is a crucial service that they perform, but it is rather dramatic. Meanwhile, filming is underway for Twister 2 ?
It was an easy night on the floor. We had 7 patients. It was still hard to stay up all night since I'm out of the habit.
While I was cooking dinner last night, Gma got up from her nap and I heard her ask Hubs, "Where's your wife?". I thought, "Oh boy. Here it comes" but she sat at the dining table and said encouraging things like "you're a good one" and "you have a beautiful home" ... and "We're not here to eat, we'll leave before then, so don't worry about feeding us"... Just a nice, friendly visit ?
Well, it isn't exactly morning, but I'll say it is morning for ME!
Got Nannie up, cleaned her up, then dressed, and she has just finished her yogurt and cran-apple juice. I am having to wash her top two covers, as at some point last night she got up and had a BM, then went back to bed, but only laid down on top of the covers, leaving some stains. ? Thanks, Nannie.
I guess hubby is out in the Ford; he woke up very early and went out there to sleep some more. He said the seat is very comfortable; wish I could get him a new bed with an adjustable head that he could elevate. One of these days, maybe. Also, both of his feet are edematous. He needs to go back to the doc and get another script for Lasix again. I'll have to remind him to call and make an appt for himself.
I never-ever wanted to be a "Mommy", but that's what I seem to be now. PPFFTT!
Tweety, Too bad you can't just tell the techs that they can do charge duty, with a pt assignment, and you can be their tech. Then they'd see what all it involves to be the nurse in charge. What is it that they are expecting you to do? They'd be lost in a New York minute and mess up the shift in big ways if they took over your 'do-nothing' work! HAH!
Ado, it is weird that Gma is being so nice to you and about you. Something flipped overnight? The phase of the moon, maybe?
Nannie is already starting her after-breakfast siesta. As much as she drives me nuts, I really do like her daytime sleeping habits! I was told by a former patient, age 97, that sleeping at any point in time is a "privilege of age", even if the falling asleep was in the middle of a conversation!
And, by the way, Tweety, I see nothing wrong with taking meds to help you sleep; SLEEP is very, VERY important, and it's not like you are taking the meds to get high during the day. Being dependent on something to help you sleep really isn't the same thing as abusing the meds. I find it difficult to fall asleep if I don't take my Xanax, and trying to fall asleep with a runaway mind leaves me awake for HOURS before I finally fall asleep! It is exhausting, and much worse for my body than taking a pill.
No big plans for today, except the little bit of laundry I'm doing. Oh, and I just did the dishes that have piled up in the sink since yesterday morning . I think HUBBY should do the dishes, but he has a distinct lack of ooomph! I hope he doesn't come in plastered, but ya never know...
Anyway, there is a baseball game tonight. I suppose Nannie will want to stay up until the game is over, around ten PM, even if she has episodes of fading off to sleep. She insisted last night that she was watching the show on TV, but at 10 o'clock it was over. I turned the TV off and told her it was time for her to go to bed, because the show was over, and *I* didn't want to stay up any longer. She didn't really want to go to bed, she said. Hubby got irked and told her it was fine with him if she stayed in her recliner for the night, but the TV will be off, and soon the lights will be off, too... So, she grumbled. We let her go take care of her own toileting; then I just came back down to make sure she got underneath all the covers, and the chux was under her butt. Later in the night when she got up, she completely made her bed, then went to the bathroom, and went back to bed on top of the covers. She always has to have everything so perfect, that when she sits down in the recliner with her shoulder wrap around her, she has to arrange the wrap so that the ends are evenly side-by-side over her knees and the tassels are all straightened out, then her hands have to be covered under the wrap, the process of which makes her have to straighten it all out again. That drives me crazy, so I will go over and tell her to put her hands over her belly, then make sure everything is covered with the wrap.....THEN she will fall asleep!
I guess that's all the excitement so far today. Hope the rest of the day is smooth with a capital SMOO!
The temp is 75 and still going up. Nope, we don't have AC. The house stays relatively cool, and I actually like to be warm. Dh however, hates it. And yet, he is out working in it. I went for a little run, but got a late start. Whew, was I sweaty! Tomorrow I will be volunteering at a big plant sale fundraiser, manning one of the perennial flower tables. I will be there most of the day. I am just finishing a late lunch, then I'm going back out to cut some more grass.
We looked at beds last week that had raisable heads. I thought it would be good for dh for his sleep apnea, he thought it would be good for me for my heart. We are still thinking about it, because the price was $$$, and there is no urgency right now.
Hubby c/o his stomach, as usual, he says he has a LOT of gas, for which he takes GAS-X, "but it only works for about two hours." Also c/o his inability to fall back to sleep this morning once he got in the Ford passenger seat. I told him again that he needs to make an appt w/ the doc so he can get the Lasix to reduce his pedal edema, and maybe talk over the problems he has w/ sleeping. We all know what THAT might involve, and I doubt that it (detox) will happen. Sometimes I wonder which of his internal organs will give out first.
I fed Nannie a Beef Stew Bowl (Marie Callander's frozen meal) which she really likes. Hubby says he will fix something for himself later on. I said the same thing, too!
ARGH! Both Nannie and Hubby need HEARING AIDS!! Everything I ever say to them, I get either a "huh?" or a "what?" and have to repeat myself. Then if they don't hear the second time, I speak each word slowly and dis-tinct-ly. I am not a mumbler; I think they need some time to focus in their brain on the fact that they are being spoken to. I should learn to say their name before I say anything else, then maybe they'd look at me and realize I am about to say something to them.
Ah, well, I'm being internally cranky, I know. I see the doc next Wednesday, but for the counselor I have to wait until June 6th for that appt. I suppose I am almost sometimes as bad at procrastinating as hubby, though at least I do know there is an Al-Anon mtg in town on Tuesday evenings @ 7-ish......
All for now~

Stars it seems good that she didn't stay too long
Tweety it can be tricky dealing with that kind of negativity
NJ22 90 is pretty hot, hope you have AC
Work was fairly busy, lot of calls and documents in the afternoon. Thought I might have to stay late but only had to stay another 10 or 15 minutes. Found out I had missed something minor on a recent case, not a big deal but omissions like that bug me. Had counseling over the lunch hour, which was nice but meant I had to do dishes after work
Didn't do too much after work except for laundry and exercise
Tonight I'll relax and go to yoga. The beginner yoga class is back, with a different instructor, and they have increased their prices
Going to be a bit cooler today, in the mid 70s with rain
