Freshman @ Cochran School of Nursing

Published

Hi,

Are there any incoming freshmen at Cochran School of Nursing this Fall? If so, I was wondering if you've ordered your uniform yet. If so, how different is it from the regular white pair of scrubs? I know I still have to order the apron but since I already have white scrubs, I was wondering if I can just use those...also, is it necessary to purchase ALL the books on the list they gave us???

Thanks for your help.

Hello Doxielove,

I am an incoming freshman as well. I did not order my uniform yet, but according to the order form we have to oder everything except the lab coat. I figured that i will order the three pieces and buy my second set from some where else for much cheaper. Are you a Saturday student? As far as books I only purchased the required ones. I just received my Medical Surgical Text and that book is at least 15 pounds. Are you ready for next week Wednesday?

Hi Focused On My Dreams,

I guess I'll do the same, order the uniform except the lab coat. I'm pretty excited about next Wednesday's orientation, although I won't be able to make it on Thursday. I couldn't get that day off from work :( And yes, I'm a saturday student, I'm in the New York City Section. What about you?

I haven't ordered my books yet...I'll do that soon. It's been really hectic for me because I only found out I got into the program last tuesday (I wasn't expecting to get in until the spring semester)! By wednesday, they had me go to the school to register for classes!! Now I have to get medical clearance from my internist and take the BLS class! Craaaazy!!!!

Sorry, I had to vent :) Anyway, have you taken the BLS class yet?

Wow, thats great! Well I'm in the Saturday program as well. I did purchase most of my books. I did not buy any study guides or the NCLEX book. I took my BLS in the Bronx in July if you would like the number just email me.

hi bluetopaz,

the admissions person i talked to is kathy vitola. she was the one who called to tell me that i got accepted. you can email her at kvitola@riversidehealth.org

have you been interviewed yet? we've already started classes so i doubt that you still get in this semester but definitely follow up with her for the spring semester (she's REALLY nice).

if there is anything else i can help you with, just post a message or email me directly.

good luck!

i have to admit, you have a higher GPA than i do, i only have a 3.5.

i don't think you, the applicant, can schedule the interview. the school determines who to interview. the thing is, i already have a degree in biology with minor in psychology. when i was interviewed, the interviewer told me that that in a way made my application stand out from the rest.

have you taken any of the pre-requisite classes yet? if i were you, i would use this semester to take all pre-requisite classes. that way, when you start in the spring, you have nothing to worry about and it will definitely make a good impression on the admissions committee :)

no, i don't have to take the pre-reqs over. also since i already took all the psych classes they require, i don't have to take those classes anymore.

i really hope you get in the spring semester. again, best of luck!

- yes, so long as they are for credit and you get a C+ or better grade (aim high though coz i think the school is making some changes in terms of the grades they will accept).

in terms of the classes, so far, so good. we have a diverse group of people and the age range is really wide. i can't say anything about the clinicals yet as we haven't started.

no, i'm not in the fast track program. i have to wait until after my first year and if my grades meet the standards, then i can apply to the fast track program, which i am hoping to do :)
