Freshman @ Cochran School of Nursing

Published

Hi,

Are there any incoming freshmen at Cochran School of Nursing this Fall? If so, I was wondering if you've ordered your uniform yet. If so, how different is it from the regular white pair of scrubs? I know I still have to order the apron but since I already have white scrubs, I was wondering if I can just use those...also, is it necessary to purchase ALL the books on the list they gave us???

Thanks for your help.

Hello Doxielove,

I am an incoming freshman as well. I did not order my uniform yet, but according to the order form we have to oder everything except the lab coat. I figured that i will order the three pieces and buy my second set from some where else for much cheaper. Are you a Saturday student? As far as books I only purchased the required ones. I just received my Medical Surgical Text and that book is at least 15 pounds. Are you ready for next week Wednesday?

Hi Focused On My Dreams,

I guess I'll do the same, order the uniform except the lab coat. I'm pretty excited about next Wednesday's orientation, although I won't be able to make it on Thursday. I couldn't get that day off from work :( And yes, I'm a saturday student, I'm in the New York City Section. What about you?

I haven't ordered my books yet...I'll do that soon. It's been really hectic for me because I only found out I got into the program last tuesday (I wasn't expecting to get in until the spring semester)! By wednesday, they had me go to the school to register for classes!! Now I have to get medical clearance from my internist and take the BLS class! Craaaazy!!!!

Sorry, I had to vent :) Anyway, have you taken the BLS class yet?

Wow, thats great! Well I'm in the Saturday program as well. I did purchase most of my books. I did not buy any study guides or the NCLEX book. I took my BLS in the Bronx in July if you would like the number just email me.

can you tell me the name of the admission person you talked 2 at cochran? i applied in march 08 completed all liberal arts and science courses my gpa is a 3.8. i took the entrance exam didnt do dat well in math because i didnt knw we couldnt use calculators but overall not bad. i was told there were no more spots avaliable for fall 08. i called thru out the summer just to check if sum1 dropped and was still told no. so im just curious who the admissions person was? thanks

hi bluetopaz,

the admissions person i talked to is kathy vitola. she was the one who called to tell me that i got accepted. you can email her at [email protected]

have you been interviewed yet? we've already started classes so i doubt that you still get in this semester but definitely follow up with her for the spring semester (she's REALLY nice).

if there is anything else i can help you with, just post a message or email me directly.

good luck!

yea i spoke 2 her the whole summer and she wouldnt let me schedule a interview telling me there was no time and that i had 2 try 4 jan... and that she would call me but hasnt called or emailed me can you tell me wats ur gpa?

i have to admit, you have a higher GPA than i do, i only have a 3.5.

i don't think you, the applicant, can schedule the interview. the school determines who to interview. the thing is, i already have a degree in biology with minor in psychology. when i was interviewed, the interviewer told me that that in a way made my application stand out from the rest.

have you taken any of the pre-requisite classes yet? if i were you, i would use this semester to take all pre-requisite classes. that way, when you start in the spring, you have nothing to worry about and it will definitely make a good impression on the admissions committee :)

thank i hav all the pre-reqs so right now im just takin bs classes so that my status is matriculated. since u already hav a degree did u hav to take the sciences all over again? and good luck in the program

thanks :)

no, i don't have to take the pre-reqs over. also since i already took all the psych classes they require, i don't have to take those classes anymore.

i really hope you get in the spring semester. again, best of luck!

so ur basically sayin dat if ur degree covers the pre reqs u dont have to take dem over? sorry 4 askin the same question over i just wanna b sure because i hav enough credits to get a degree only an associates now because im a sophmore but still... how do you u lik the program so far? or u in the fast track?:D

so ur basically sayin dat if ur degree covers the pre reqs u dont have to take dem over?
- yes, so long as they are for credit and you get a C+ or better grade (aim high though coz i think the school is making some changes in terms of the grades they will accept).

in terms of the classes, so far, so good. we have a diverse group of people and the age range is really wide. i can't say anything about the clinicals yet as we haven't started.

no, i'm not in the fast track program. i have to wait until after my first year and if my grades meet the standards, then i can apply to the fast track program, which i am hoping to do :)
