Hello!

I waited to register for this site, as somehow I thought that I would jinx myself. I have been accepted for the 2011 Fall semester of the day nursing program at Joliet Junior College and would like to know who else has! :D :yeah::yeah:Let's start the circle of help early! I have seen this on here before and thought it was such a cool thing to do. I would love to share questions and concerns and "meet" the other newly admitted!

Hi guys! I was in another thread and didn't see this one until today. I'm in the evening program. Congratulations to all of you!

Emerald1,

Do you have any idea what time clinicals will start for night students???

I vaguely remember being told at the informational nursing meeting a few months ago that the clinicals would be the 3-11 shift, but I'm not sure whether we work until 11 or get off a little earlier. We should find out for sure on Wednesday at registration. Sorry, hope that helps, see you there. Are you going to the 2 additional lab and organizational meetings?

Yep....that helps. Trying to figure out what I am going to do with my kids on that day :) I AM staying for those extra meetings. See ya there :) Hope we have a good group of people for our night classes!!! Thanks.

I have a 3 year old, so I know how you feel! My husband works a lot and sometimes works nights, so the good part is that it's only for 8 weeks each semester. Do you have any family that can help out?

I have six of my own :) and my husband sometimes works nights too. We seem to figure it out though. My family is pretty helpful so I'm hoping everything will work out fine. I think not knowing what it's going to be like is the most intimidating part so far. I'm trying to read these boards but it's freaking me out a little too much. One step at a time, I guess!!

I don't know how to private message on here yet, but does anyone know if we will be going into the full clinical day right from the start? I know I read on here something about 8 weeks? But does that mean that for the first 8 weeks that full day time slot will be empty instead of being at the hospital or will we be in actual class during that time? I know I have the CNA class for the first 4 weeks, then that ends. I just thought of this question and didn't ask during orientation. I hope my question makes sense. I am trying to get my schedule together at work so that I can take time off. Maybe LilwannabeRN can help?? :-)

...also, this is kinda stupid and personal, but I fell a little behind this semester in MICRO studying for the TEAS and I have a hard (for me) class this semester (statistics) along with it, and I have one of the WORST teachers I have ever had in my entire life (no lie) and am currently getting a C going into the final. If I end up with a C, is this really going to matter or do I have to just have this to graduate? I really don't want to take it again....ever....

I think for the first 5-6 weeks clinicals are held in the skills classrooms, so I don't think that slot will be empty. Definitely ask someone at the office though. What clinical site are you going to? I'm at Villa Franciscan/St. Joseph's.

Pretty sure a C is all you need to graduate, though it might hold you up trying to get into a BSN or other degree program after JJC. I'm taking it over summer, along with sociology, and I'm nervous!

From what I understand, the first 4 weeks of clinical time are spent in the classroom, my time is from 4-10 for the evening program, but I think when you start out you are only in class for 4 hours and then after the first 4 weeks you move on to the nursing home where you will be 4-5 hours and that lasts 5 weeks, then you finish at the hospital which will be the full 6 hours. I don't know this to be absolute, but I've been told this by a few people. Hope that helps!!

Hello!! During the first 8 weeks (it may be 4 weeks i think i may have forgotten) You will have clinical topics during what will be your sheduled clinical time. Then you will start clinicals on that day and will also continue to have clinical topics at your scheduled time. Unless it has changed. I'm not sure if that has helped any haha i have been studying for hours so my brain is a little fried. You can contact the secretaries in the nursing department and they will be more than willing to fill you in completely. =):nurse:
