Absolutely....go for it! You have an environment with lots of new grads, a nice manager and it sounds like you will get the training you need with the chest tubes etc. I never worked strictly med surg myself, when I started in the hospital, I worked Ortho and then a thoracic step-down (telemetry) unit. You will LOVE it. Is it a telemetry unit? I'm sure it is! If you have any sense that you want to go to the ICU, it is usually my recommendation that people get some experience in this kind of unit first. (one other thing, that you may or may not find to be an advantage, although many people do, you will have a lot less people with GI problems, which means a lot less BM to clean up....just a thought!)
Take the job!!! Definitely!! ;)
if the hospital is filled with new grads, then it's very likely they have a darned good orientation.
i definitely think you should take this position.
it will teach you a lot of invaluable skills.
and it sounds like you'll get the support you need.
you will do well, i'm sure.
best of everything.

Hello!! Ok so I gradutated in May and passe dmy nclex in Aug, been applying but no bites, Was thinking I just wanted a basic med/surg fl to get my feet wet and get started. I went for a job interview and its for a thoracic fl. I have no idea about thoracic and it makes me nervous but this is normal right? The hospital seems awesome with the new grads and the nursing manager seems very nice. I just seriously wasn't exposed to chest tubes and telemetry stuff during clinical so Im wondering if a special floor like this is not a good fit and I should hold off for med/surg? Any advise, please!!!
