4.0 all four semesters?

Published

I'm curious as to how hard it is to keep a 4.0 all 4 semesters? I got a 4.0 this past semester, which was my first, but I feel that's only because it's the easiest. I heard 4th was a killer at my school and straight "A" students were barely passing.

I'm just wondering because I plan to pursure a Master's (hopefully) at Johns Hopkins and know that I'll need excellent grades to be accepted. Thanks!

There is a girl in the nursing program that will be starting her second year this fall. She had a 4.0 for both fall and spring semesters. This girl is SUPER smart. I don't understand why she is becoming a nurse. She should be a doctor. She just absorbs and retains information like nothing I've ever seen. She is from Ethiopia and even with a slight language barrier she is still the smartest in NS.

??? And she can be a doctor. She can earn her doctorate in nursing. I hope you think about what you said, above. We need SUPER smart nurses. SUPER smart does not = physician.

I agree with Melinurse. The grade shouldn't matter, and doesn't when you start working as an RN.

I have been very humbled by nursing school. I am graduating in two months, and have seen that even when you feel that you have mastered the material, you still may not get an "A". I have always been a straight-A student. Was through elementary, high school, and much of my bachelor's. I started a Master's, and only went one semester. During this time I took a research design applied statistics course. It was pretty tough, and the final exam fried my brain. Nursing school was harder than the Master's. The questions in nursing school on tests are so markedly different than any other discipline. It took me almost 4 semesters to be able to understand how to analyze and answer correctly. I was so discouraged that I couldn't seem to get As in my core classes. Then I realized it's not that important. Just get through it. As Melinurse said, it's not the letter grade that matters. It's how you perform as a nurse!

I was able to pull 4.0's the last 2 semesters. This semester I think I will have mostly B's and one A. I was upset at first, but I am just glad I am making it through. This is my med/surg semester and it is very hard:uhoh21:. I have come to the realization that my 4.0 doesn't define what kind of nurse I will be. I just hope that I learn to take care of my patients correctly, learn how to administer meds without killing anyone, and be able to recognize when I need to learn more about subjects that I am weak on.

Good Luck I believe you can accomplish anything you put your heart into. God is with you.

I am a 4th semester student with a 4.0gpa, but that has changed this semester. I am squeaking by with a high B average while half of my class is failing out. Though I am working harder than ever this term, things are very different 4th term at my school! Try getting a 65 question exam with 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete it and there are 12 SATA's on it! Yeah... enough said! LOL

I heard 4th term was a beast and now I am experiencing it but I have really shifted the focus off of attaining the "perfect" 4.0 because my main focus now is on patient care and clinical competency. I only have a few weeks to go until I am the RN solely responsible for my patients. It's not the end of the world if I don't graduate with the perfect GPA though it would have been nice. Sometimes the cards are stacked a certain way and you have to work with what you've got! :)

I know I will not ever have a GPA of 4.0, and while their is nothing wrong with trying to get one, as long as I can get in the 3.0 range, I will be alright. Like you, I want to go to grad school, so my attitude is always to strive for an A, but always have a baseline goal of a B! Plus its not the end of the world!!! Once we all start nursing in the real world, this will all be but a dream that passed!
