Does anybody here have OCD?
Wow, we are extremely similar! I have to set three different alarms on my phone so I make sure that I get up on time. I also have to check them three times each every night before I go to bed to make sure I didn't put it in as p.m. instead of a.m. I've dealt with this my entire life, and it hasn't nothered me too much before because honestly, I can't ever imagine what it'd be like to go to bed and not want to double check the oven, stove, and all the door locks. But, now with nursing school it's just too much of a pain. I can't constantly be rechecking the MAR because I know there will be times when I can't do that so I'd really like to learn how to look at it once and be ok with that. Right now though, I stress about whether or not I gave the right med for HOURS after clinical.

Nursing Shoes
I bought some shoes at a nursing store for class last semester and hated them. I just got some new Nike Shox because everyone I know recommends them. We have to have ALL white so here's the link to the ones I got (because finding all white is hard : http://www.footlocker.com/catalog/productdetail/model_nbr--61113/sku--09354113/size--/cm--GLOBAL%20SEARCH%3A%20KEYWORD%20SEARCH/ and yes I know they're men's, but they have the same exact shoe in women's but, it has a little grey on it. BTW, men's sizes are 1 1/2 sizes bigger than womens, so since I'm an 8, I bought a 6.5 in mens. Hope this helps!

Does anybody here have OCD?
I have the same problem with intrusive thoughts! These things pop into my head and sometimes I can't believe I'm thinking about it and I have to realize it's the OCD. That's a good idea about saying things out loud. I can't get it in my mind that something is right (ie the iron is unplugged) unless I stare at it for a minute. If not, I'm constantly questioning myself. Sometimes it just makes me feel better to know that other people go through this too, because no matter how many times someone says they understand, they still stare at me like I'm crazy when I have to check every lock on every door 3 times a night.

Does anybody here have OCD?
I do understand where you're coming from, but it gets annoying when all I can think about is whether or not I gave the right med and keep questioning myself, even after I've checked the MAR 11+ times. I definitely can't do that forever.

Does anybody here have OCD?
I know there was already a thread started todayabout it, but it seemed to be going off the ADD direction so I was just wondering if anyone here has OCD in nursing school? I do, and it's becoming really hard for me. I have to check the MAR at least 11 times every time I give a med and I always have to have someone else check it for me, or I'll go home and obsess about whether I gave the right med until the next day at clinical. Even at the patient's bedside, after I've already checked the drugs against the MAR, I'll check them two and three times. Sometimes I ever keep the wrappers in my pocket so I can use them to double check later if I start second guessing myself. This takes up a lot of my time in clinicals. I'm thinking about starting therapy, because I know I can't do this once I'm an actual nurse. I've always delt with this problem, but now it's getting out of control at the hospital. Just wondering if anyone else here has it and what your coping methods are.

Being a CRNA
Hi! I'm just an undergrad. nursing student now, but I'm trying to look at all the options for advanced nursing. So....what is being an SRNA like? What made you choose to do it? What are your responsibilites? Is it fun? And how horribly hard is the program? Yes, I could look some of these up, but there's nothing better than hearing it from the people experiencing it. Thanks in advance!

If I start the master's program by 2011...
"A Matter of Degree By the year 2015, a doctorate of nursing practice will become the required degree for nurses in advanced practice fields, according to a new ruling by the AACN." -From the Johns Hopkins SON website So it is a definite now? I had assumed that it was only an idea, from what I read in everyone's answers. Oh well, an extra two years of school never killed anyone.

If I start the master's program by 2011...
I was just reading up on what a CNS and read that an NP and a CNS are virtually the same thing in most states, so if the DNP becomes mandatory to be an NP, wouldn't it be easier just to become a CNS?

4.0 all four semesters?
Thanks for all the replies! I am lucky because at my school an "A" is a 90%, a "B" is an 82% and above, and to pass you have to have a 77%. I just want to clarify that I'm not someone who is neurotic over my grades and has to have all "A's". I've just dreamed of going to grad school at Johns Hopkins for a long time and I think that having a 4.0 will help me get in, abd maybe help me get a little money because it's about 30,000 to go there a year.

One more question if you don't mind....Is the DNP requirement to be an NP guaranteed thing yet or is it still just speculaion?

If I start the master's program by 2011...
Thanks! Although I was hoping to hear a different answer! So, would hvaing to have a DNP degree deter you from being an NP or is there not too much of a difference between the two programs?

4.0 all four semesters?
I'm curious as to how hard it is to keep a 4.0 all 4 semesters? I got a 4.0 this past semester, which was my first, but I feel that's only because it's the easiest. I heard 4th was a killer at my school and straight "A" students were barely passing. I'm just wondering because I plan to pursure a Master's (hopefully) at Johns Hopkins and know that I'll need excellent grades to be accepted. Thanks!

will I still be eligible to practice as an NP with just a master's degree? I've read through the thread at the top addressing this issue, but I read they want the DNP mandatory BY 2015, which leaves the possibility of it being required before then. I'm only currently in an ADN program, so I know this is pretty far off, but I entered the nursing program with the intent of one day being an NP.

anyone find out that they have a mental illness
I have OCD. It's really bad when it comes to giving meds because I have to check the MAR at least 11 times and I always make someone else check it for me. It's been a struggle...but I am definitely going to go to therapy before I become a nurse because I couldn't live like this. Nursing school is hard enough...get some help...
