remember this post of mine from 19 days ago about discovering an IUFD on a pt who came into triage? that really sucked.
I found ANOTHER one today. Term-came in for induction. Her and her husband cried that horrible grief stricken wailing that makes your heart hurt-truly one of the worst sounds i think i've ever heard. Even the male doctor cried a little.
sometimes life isn't fair, is it?

I had to try and help deal with that years ago when I was in nursing school and was just an aide. That wail is unbearable to me. I remember that we could hear her all the way down the hall. And they kept the poor woman on the OB unit. Her roommate had her healthy baby in the room. Seemed so cruel. They don't do that now. As a nurse I've always avoided OB b/c I didn't think I could bear to hear that wail again. I cannot imagine such pain.

I don't know if this is a nursing superstition, but a nurse on my floor said there's a lot of demises at this time of year. We've also had two in the past 2 weeks!
Is there actually any evidence for this or have other nurses noticed it?

Not quite the same, but at both L&D unit's I have worked in they always seem to come in clusters of about 3 in a shot period of time.
