Our DON at the Nursing Home where I work wanted our ideas for things to do for Nurses Week, any one have any good ideas? Or perhaps some cheap kinds of promotional items to give out to the nurses?

Get the bandage magnet, they are like $0.40 each.

Since nurses have no time to eat and going out is unheard of. How about catering for the entire week breakfast, lunch and dinner? I think I got a new stethescope last year and some junk food. What I needed instead of getting that how about a Gift Card to Walmart or Albertsons something I can really use. I shouldnt be gripping , Im thankful to be remembered. What about asking the nurses what they would ,then giving them a pick of several things. :)

Good idea in asking the nurses where you work want instead.
How about "enforced" bathroom break (no holding your urine for 12 hours). Learned in my microbiology class (the prof was an RN) that it is not healthy to hold your urine for 12 hours straight.
How about doing the nurses shopping for a week?
The best gift I ever got was a cloth tote with sizzors, clip board, pen and pen light, and retractable tape measure in it. I still have most of it. The facility can afford a nice gift for the nurses.
Our HN brought us a cake and made coffee for a noon time break, those who could not stop were save a piece to take home. Each shift got a cake too, no one took any home for hubby until everyone was served.
Pictures of staff, nice snaps, not crappy ones were taken and a little about each of us and our likes and dislikes were put up on bulletin board. We took them home later.
A bag of mints and kisses was given out by administration with another pen.
Mugs were given out on a raffle basis.
Donations from area business were obtained and raffled too.
Facility drew name of nurse for years subscription to nursing magazine.
Each unit was awarded a 25.00 gift card and a local minister drew the names of the winners. The card was from a local grocery store. :balloons:
I'm a DON at a small facility, I've got 10 nurses and an agency nurse (he's worked there, usually weeknds) for the past 3 years. Of course we've got a small budget and I'm in need of some ideas for Nurses Week (as well as CNA Week). Please share some ideas! I was thinking about baking a large sheet cake, decorating it and putting all their names on it so each could have a block with their name, perhaps gift cards to a local restaurant, and gift bags?

I'm actually a massage therapist myself... you wouldn't believe how many calls I get asking for free chair massage. I only do it for charities. Massage is very demanding, and it's important to get something for your work. If your friend does it for free then cook her a nice meal or something to let her know you appreciate it.
