Well then you are a rarity. I work at OSU and we only hire BSN. I have close friends who graduated from CSCC with a 3.8 GPA who have worked at OSU for several years and are currently in the RN-BSN program who cannot get hired. We even have numerous PCAs who are grads from Otterbein and Capital (BSN) who cannot find jobs. I have an inside connection at OhioHealth and they aren't hiring either. I have friends who were in their GRAD program (for PCAs to become RNs - OhioHealth pays and in exchange you owe them 2 years) who aren't getting hired and are being let go freely (they don't owe them the work commitment or money) because they only want BSN.

If you're going to not go a BSN route, at least go to a reputable school that has been around for a long time (COTC and CSCC).

What are you talking about? My friend graduated from fortis two yars ago....interviewed with OSU wexner and got hired. As far as reputable school..... we did clinicals at RIVERSIDE icu step down.....5 fortis grads work on that floor...and mostly Associate degree nurses. Dont know what you are talking about....but im going to make the most of my education.

At the end of the day ALL ohio nursing schools are regulated by the board of nursing as far as class cirriculum...and all nursing schools have these standarized test. Besides....sitting on a waiting list was not sonething i wanted to do. I'd see how reputable cscc and cotc is I hav heard terrible things about dang near all nursing schools in columbus......and also ohio for that matter. I heard a lot of good things also about all nursing schools in columbus....and ohio for that matter. Like i said and i will say it again your education is what you make it, no nurse is better than the next because of the school they went to. And i refuse to let anyone make me feel that way! Good for me! Yay!

Two years ago is not now. Two years ago the BSN only thing hadn't been started by Magnet. As someone who has worked at OhioHealth and OSU and having friends who work in HR - things have changed considerably from 2 years ago.

The student experience at the school doesn't matter. What matters is the hospitals' perception of the graduates.

Clinicals is ICUs are not valuable to nursing students. Nursing students need to learn time management and management of 4-5 patients, not how to titrate drips or management of pt's on vents.

By the way, as a CSCC grad - I had no waiting list. I started the very next class after I applied.

WELL GOOD FOR YOU HEARTNURSING3......IM HAPPY FOR YOU AND WISH YOU THE BEST ON YOUR JOURNEY IN NURSING! I know mines will be fulfilling just as well despite your negative attitude towards what school i went to, the "reputation" of the school, or your attitide toward the school. Im glad i am the type of nurse who will give the next student a round of applause for even goin to nursing school regardless of where their school went. Im just trying to keep things positive for fellow students thay maybe reading this post.

Let me chime in on this conversation if I may. I currently attend the Centerville campus. I too decided to go back to where I originally graduated from because it was easier for me plus, I didn't want to be bothered with a 2+ year waiting list just to get my RN title. Now, with that said, I have plans to continue my education immediately after graduation all the way to the masters level. Just because I attend a career college to get my RN, doesn't mean I will be less prepared. No graduate from any college is fully prepared to hit the ground running right after graduation and initial licensure. Newly licensed BSN'S are no different than a newly licensed ADN. Do universities who graduate BSN'S teach them to think more critically than an ADN nurse? Probably not. We all understand that most hospitals and hospital systems are trying to obtain the coveted "magnet" status; however, while they are doing so, they are making seasoned floor nurses (ADN AND BSN), carry patient loads that are unsafe and counterproductive to providing excellent patient care and customer service to the public that they serve. So, it seems to me that while the hospitals are "waiting" for the experienced BSN to apply and for the "Nurse Residents" to finish the hospital mandated program, the patients and those providing the care will suffer unnecessarily just because of 2 years more of theory and management education. Its stupid and dangerous. BTW, NOT EVEN NURSE LEADERS CAN DECIDE ON A ENTRY LEVEL INTO PRACTICE YET THEY ARE THE SAME ONES WHO CAME UP WITH THE WHOLE "MAGNET" DESIGNATION. ADN AND BSN BOTH EQUAL REGISTERED NURSE!

BTW, I will be GRADUATING FROM FORTIS COLLEGE OF NURSING CENTERVILLE CAMPUS 12/2015 AND PROUD OF IT! Only the universe knows my employment and educational fate. I REFUSE TO BE DISCOURAGED BY ANYONE. Many will tell me NO, ONE WILL SAY YES!

(1) I am an ADN prepared nurse - I graduated from CSCC (with no waiting list, by the way)

(2) I work at Magnet hospital now only hiring BSN nurses and our nurse patient ratios are always 1:4 on med/surg, even on night shift

I'm not saying I agree - I think the BSN thing is crap. I have not learned a single thing in my RN-BSN program and I'm 2/3 of the way through. It's still an unfortunate fact of the matter.
