Who else out there is preparing to apply to either Wesleyan or TCU for 2008? I'm just preparing to sit for my CCRN (I have my CNRN that Wesleyan will accept but not TCU) & take my GRE. I know the deadline for TCU is October & Wesleyan has moved theirs up to Dec. 1. Not much time left. Anyone out there received any tips for admission?:uhoh21:
You felt "terrorized?" How come? So you think that by asking you clinical questions you felt terrorized. Hhmmmm.... Just wait when you start your clinicals.
While "terrorized" may be a strong word, anyone who says they weren't nervous for this interview is lying. TCU doesn't ask the clinical stuff because they only interview CCRN's, so they assume you've got the clinical stuff down well enough.
Maymay,
Congrats! I would tell TWU that you have other interviews and will tell them yes or no at the very first possible oppotunity. Just take the time you need to decide and then follow through.
If you interview elsewhere, get accepted, and then decline TWU it may open doors for others wanting to get in. Dont feel rushed, but once you have all of your offers on the table give your answer to all involved parties expiditiously.
I got in at TWU - Denver Health. Not sure yet what I'm gonna do because I still have to interview with UT and BCM in Houston. I have to call and see how long I have to decide. They did sound pretty anxious about getting a reply ASAP, though. Any advice? I don't want TWU to think I'm not stoked about the invitation...because I TOTALLY AM! It's just such a big decision, and I want to know all of my options before I make it! Tips appreciated!!
From what I have been told, TCU feels that since all their applicants are CCRNs that they have a basic clinical theoretical knowledge base and ability. And the CCRN exam is not that easy, despite what the other poster says. They are interviewing to see who is a good fit for their program and get the best possible applicants. They must be doing something right, they had a 100% pass rate on the certification exam and got a maximum 10 year accreditation. Everyone that I talk to thinks TCU does an outstanding job and I personally know that their students are very well prepared when they go to clinical and make excellent CRNAs when they finish.

Congratulations for your acceptance! I don't think that TWU would expect you to make a hasty decision this soon without looking at all your options. Good luck in whatever program you choose.

Pedsccrn, I am not directing this toward you because I can certainly relate to your anxiety during the interview process. However, I believe that interviews should involve clinical questions. The fact of the matter is, there will be some serious pimping going on in the OR and ad-coms should seek to find out how their potential students will react under extreme pressure. Ad-coms should get a feel for those who will, no doubt, crack under pressure.
As for TCU only interviewing candidates with CCRN credentials, there are potential problems with this approach. Reason being, I have a number of friends with GPAs >3.8, GREs >1100, and CCRN. Sure, they can study and retain information very well. The problem is, they cannot apply their knowledge at the bedside. Very scary if it's you or your loved one relying on that highly-credentialed RN to save your a$$. I acknowledge that these nurses may be the exception and not the rule, but this is something that ad-coms should consider especially among nurses with less than 3 yrs experience.
Finally, Peds, I've been following this thread because it is so interesting. The Fort Worth programs are absolutely the most popular on this site. That being said, I've followed your posts and you seem to be taking the arduous process of getting into CRNA school in stride. I sincerely wish you the best of luck...the wait is almost over.

Neurogeek, dude! I will be thoroughly shocked if Wesleyan and TCU aren't knocking down your door asking you to go to their school in the fall. I was just reading that you have your CNRN and CCRN (score of 110). I know there's a lot more to getting into school than stats, but I'm sure you fit the bill. You have so much experience and determination. Since TCU made their decision yesterday, you'll probably find out admission status before I do, since I live in California, and bulk mail from Texas takes a painfully long time to reach me. I really hope that you get your choice of schools, but like I said, I'd be astonished if you didn't get in for the fall. You have what it takes to be a competent, caring CRNA.
Also, did you apply to any other schools? If so, where were they? Are you from the Fort Worth Area? Did you see the UFO reported on CNN today? It was said to have been viewed by some Fort Worth area residents yesterday or so, and government officials are going out there to investigate. (I know, slightly off topic)
You are sooooo in for fall '08! You have too many positive notes on your side girl!
I am sorry I think the CCRN is easy . . . I don't want anyone to feel threatened or terrorized by my statement.
But it was an easy exam . . . despite all of the hoop-la everyone wants to make about it. It is a very predictable test. Life is not predictable (neither are many emergencies you will encounter during an "oh blank!" moment in the OR).
I have my reasons for attending the school I chose.
Everybody is different . . . and everyone should go where they feel welcome.
I bid you good day.

I apprecate your faith in me! However, I am afraid that I pale in comparison to some of my very worthy peers out there. I was speaking with Mary Jane at TCU earlier this week and she told me that this years applicants are some of the best they've ever seen. Imagine the level of competition out there. I feel very, very humble next to some of the others who have interviewed. I can only hope that I can measure up enough to get an acceptance. :bowingpur As for your question, the UFO sightings were in Stephenville where my sis teaches at the the university! Let's just say she is a bit embarrassed at this moment....did u see the interview with the guy who said he saw it from his deer stand, thought about shooting at it but was afraid of starting an "intrastellar war" or something really stupid like that. Wow, am I proud to be a Texan right now!
huh?
