Fork in the road - which way to go!

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my post. I need some advice.

I graduated in December, 2011. In my local area, I've had my first interview at my preferred hospital, and the other hospital will likely call me for an interview because I have a couple of classmates pulling for me. Both of these local jobs would be in the med/surg departments.. IF I was to get one of the jobs - I feel 50/50 on both places.

I applied for a job across the state on a cardiac/telemetry floor and the next day they called me to set up an interview. I also applied for 4 ICU jobs at this same place. Ultimately, I want to go on to ICU. BUT of couse, I would have to move and go through that whole big thing if I took this job.

I don't know what to do because who knows if I will get one of these local jobs - should I wait and see? Should I take this interview across the state? I mean they called me the next day so I assume they must be pretty interested, and it's on a cardiac/tele floor which might be more benificial to my experience toward ICU. If the same place was to offer me a job to ICU, I would move, no questions asked.

Stay? Go? Do the interview but decline the job if offered? Cancel the interview? Stay here and wait on the local jobs?

Interview at the other places!!! After your interview you do not have to answer the phone if you are waiting for other offers. Voicemail is wonderful:D. It is good to have options and backups. Congrats on landing all those interviews!

Take all the interviews, then decide.

Tough decision. How much money would it cost you to go for the interview out of state? Are you really willing to relocate there for a cardiac/tele job? In my opinion, if you aren't serious about accepting the position then I wouldn't waste the time and money flying/driving out there.

Is there any way you can call and see if they would be willing to do a phone interview first, and you would come for an interview in person if they are still interested? Imagine traveling there for an interview and then being rejected or asked to come back for a second interview. I'd see if you can do a preliminary phone interview and save yourself the travel expense.

Unfortunately, the fact that they called so soon may not be a sign they are really interested. It could be, but it's also possible that you might have applied right before they were going to start calling applicants anyway. And for the record, I think that med-surg would be helpful when trying to transition to the ICU as well.

The cardiac interview is a few hours away - they do a phone interview first, and then an on-site interview.

I have thought hard about it, and I think I will take the cardiac/tele job if they offer it to me, regardless of my situation. I'll have to let ya'll know!

Oh, so it's not very far at all. You could easily make the trip in one day if you needed to.

I somehow interpreted "across the state" as "across the country" and thought there would be more traveling involved. If it's only a few hours, by all means, go to the interview.

I lived in AZ and had interviews in KY and VA. Those were across the country. Cost me 400 for ticket per interview and 100 for hotel per night. You may also need to rent car or taxi. So I will say $500 per interview.
