Forgot to have TB test read!

Oh boy am I feeling like such a igit. The institution requires two TB tests for employement. I had one done in February and remembered to have that one read. The problem is that in March during orientation I forgot to come back to the nursing office and have the second one read, DUH! My questions is...will my nursing school TB test work? The last one I had was May 15, 2003. So technically I've had two within a years time. I'll be asking my institution tomorrow, but I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else and how they worked it out. Geez, I can't believe it. My first job in twelve years, and I could get fired tomorrow before I even make it to the floor! Again I say DUH.

vhope here...Thanks for all the comments and ideas everybody. They really helped me deal with the anxiety and embarrassment about forgetting. Employee Health just made me do another test all over again. Sooo, I'll have my re-do checked tomorrow (March 10). I have a note taped to my car dash and fridge so I CANT forget!!!!

I work at a health dept and do mantouxs all the time. I think it was two years ago, I had mine done and totally forgot to have it read! The other nurse I work with forgot too! There are only two of us in our office. I felt like an idiot! How many times did I grumble because someone forgot to come in and have theirs read???!!! I don't grumble as much as I use to! Hey, we are all human, right?

Hip, hip, hurray...I remembered to have my TB test read today. Thank God that's over. Thanks for the input, now I know I'll never be alone in this snafu.

If you had another one within 12 months that should be enough.

The facility where I work would only accept their RN's as signoff. Technically if I count the one I had for nursing school, the one I had in early Feb '04, the one I forgot to have read, and the redo I just had read yesterday...that means I had 4 TB tests in one year. I think it's pretty safe to assume I'm not spreading TB, ha,ha. I'm just greatful it's over.:)

My institution requires "Two step "TB testing. We do allow Documented testing -of one test within the past twelve months. We supply the testing here at employee health and people are always missing or late for there test.We catch up with them but It has never been a Fireing offense. As long as your in the proceess of getting tested you should be ok.

Good Luck.

My former hospital alliance had one of the top epidemiologists in the country. He literally knew everything about disease and testing. Guess what? Even HE couldn't read his own tb test. He had to go ot employee health just like the rest of the peons.

According to the CDC, only people who live and work in circumstances where they are exposed or at significant risk of exposure should be tested more than once. People who come from third world countries where the disease is rampant, migrant workers, homeless people, etc.

Those ARE the people I (we) worked with and were exposed to.
