when your forgetting the material?

So... I've been trucking through, hanging in there. Today I decided to go do some review of my old subjects (med micro etc.) and i discovered I have forgotten quite a bit. Im worried I'm going to do a horrible job in the future.

Anyone have any advice? Should I keep testing myself ever so often? what do you do if you forget?

I review stuff once in a while...the old adage "Use it or lose it" applies! I even have little stations set up for practicing IV inserts, foleys, etc. so that I don't get rusty (I go through each one once a week at least). Some people would probably think it silly, but I don't want to go back to clinicals and have the opportunity to do something and not remember the steps. And when you review, things come back quickly...to me it's worth the time to go over stuff once in a while :)

Good day, smf0903:

Actually what you are doing is brilliant. Thank you for sharing it!

other than the practical skills... I mean like for the text book information etc... should I go over that?

Reviewing material that you've forgotten is a great way to reclaim it and make it your own. However, until you start seeing it in practice with real patients, it's tough to hang on to.

Regardless, there's a reason why "See one, do one, teach one" is as cliche as it is...

I feel the same way. It's discouraging, but honestly I think we know more than we give ourselves credit for. I think it's just going to be repetition, repetition, repetition. Also as the member stated before me, "see one, do one, teach one" is going to help stick in our brains. I'm going to try to review my material more often and practice some NCLEX questions everyday to jog my memory and see if that helps out some.
