Hi everyone,

For the longest time I've been fascinated by forensics, administration of justice, and crime scene investigations. I'm seventeen, have graduated from high school, and currently attending college. I'm interested in pursuing a career as a forensic biologist, but am also intrigued with forensic nursing.

How would go about becoming a forensic nurse? What area of study should I be focusing on? Any type of volunteer work or shadowing that I could do that would help with gaining experience? How is it like to work as a forensic nurse?

I would appreciate any information and/or advice!

Hello, xaphista, and welcome to allnurses.com and the Forensic Nursing forum

You will need to start a nursing program, graduate, pass RN-NCLEX, and be licensed as RN in your state. Once you have at least 2 - 5 years RN experience, you can take a Forensic Nursing certificate program and sit for a certification examination. Or you might consider a Masters in Forensic Nursing.

There are also certificate programs for the LPN. Again, you will have to start out with a Practical Nursing program, graduate, pass PN-NCLEX, and be licensed as an LPN, then, take a certificate program in Forensic Nursing.
