Forensic nursing anyone?

Hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time finding definitive info. on this career option. I've been researching for a couple days and have found the following:

The SANE test will give me certification as a forensic nurse, and there are several degrees for "forensic examiner" paths of education.

Can I really get a job and be a "forensic nurse" just after the SANE certification test? It seems way too simple.

I'm also waiting to here back from the Int'l. Assoc. of Forensic Nursing.

Any info. in the mean time? Thanks:nurse:

A SANE is a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. It has some things to do with forensics but is not the same as a "Forensic Nurse".

No, you can't just be a forensic nurse after you take the SANE exam. And the SANE exam requires clinical work as well. It is not just taking an exam. Most SANEs are not forensic nurses, many are ER nurses and those that work with rape crisis centers.

There are various certificate courses in forensic nursing. There is also death investigator courses.

What exactly do you want to do with being a forensic nurse? It would help if you were more specific with what you were looking for in this area of nursing. Have you checked out the forensic nursing forum here?
