Hello! i am a RN in China have got the diploma of nursing in my country, and i am studying in a college of Cali will graduate next year.

i am troubling whether i can apply for the Cali RN use my Chinese diploma or i must use my america degree to apply for it. Someone told me i must use my present degree in Cali. I am really confused right now.. Is there someone here same situation as mine.. Please I need help..

Please give us more details.

Are you currently a nursing student in CA? If so, what degree will you graduate with? Is this CA school on the CA BRN approved list (you can give the name directly here)?

Do you have the proper work authorized SS# or work visa to apply with the CA BRN application? Are you under a student visa now or have a way to get a work approved rights?

You kind of have a unique situation in that you have a nursing diploma (but it might only be equal to a CNA or LVN standards, but will not know till it's been evaluated by the CA BRN).

But with the nursing diploma, do you also have a Chinese nursing license? However, since you're studying in a CA nursing program that's why I asked what will be your degree title such an RN?

Thank u for your quick reply!

1.I am a nursing student in CA will get the associate degree.

2.Yes, I have the work authorized SS#. i am under a student visa now.

3.Also i have the Chinese RN license with the nursing diploma.

Can i apply for the CA RN with Chinese degree? Then i can apply for it now and dont need to wait for next year to get the CA degree.

Thank u so much!

With everything that is happening with CA and currency issues I would suggest better to wait until next year. What are your plans afterwards? Do you have legal stay afterwards or planning to apply once qualified?

i wanna stay and work here! So i must get the CA RN license before graduate. i thought i can use my Chinese RN license and diploma to apply for CA RN before, but now i confused……it is not easy for a international nurse to work in CA without a CA RN license.

Is there some good idea or choice?

Thanks1

You do not need a license before you graduate to stay because you have the option of OPT which must be applied for before you work and you have a certain amount of days to find a job (last time I looked it up it was 90 days) otherwise OPT becomes void and you have to look at another way of staying. Many nurses are struggling to find work all over the US both new grads and experienced and even many more international students struggled because they are on OPT and employers don't want to take the risk of training them knowing they wouldn't be able to stay at the en due to retrogression.

CA are being strict and we are seeing many international educated nurses struggling to meet requirements with many being denied.

Once you have OPT and managed to work for a year you are going to have to maintain student status if you want to remain in the US. If you are lucky to find a employer willing to sponsor you for a greencard you then have a waiting time of 6 plus years before a visa is available going by the current bulletin for someone from China. ADN does not meet requirements for work visa minimum is BSN or over 12 years experience.
